Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Zhen Long! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tom Hagen! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Long lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Hagen backs up against the cage.
Hagen avoids the body shot from Long.
Long tries to clinch but Hagen is having none of it. Long ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hagen moves away. The fight stays on the outside here - Long looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Long tries to land a leg kick but Hagen saw it coming and moves away.
Long misses the jab. Hagen blocks the body kick.
Long lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Hagen tries a head kick but it misses.
Long thuds his shin into the meat of Hagen's side. Hagen on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hagen shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Long sprawls well. Long wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hagen gets slowly back to his feet. Long scores with a crisp jab that stopped Hagen in his tracks. Hagen takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Long lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hagen circles away quickly and effectively. Hagen takes a swing at Long's ribcage but misses. A big right from Hagen misses. Long tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hagen paws at him with a jab and circles away. Hagen looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Hagen throws a big elbow that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hagen postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Hagen throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Long works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Long preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Long is breathing heavily. Hagen stays in close to Long's body and controls the position. Hagen slips nicely into half guard. Hagen controlling the action here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hagen thows a huge punch but Long dodges it nicely.
Hagen lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Hagen is controlling the pace.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Long keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Hagen content to control rather than advance. Hagen throwing shots but Long is blocking nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Tom Hagen dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Long blocks a jab. A combination from Long does no damage. Hagen throws a lazy head kick and Long counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Hagen misses the shot to the body. Hagen darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Hagen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Hagen seems to be working for a kimura but Long defends the submission attempt. Hagen controlling the action here. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hagen missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Hagen not landing any meaningful shots this time. Hagen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Long's head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hagen keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hagen maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Long could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Hagen has cracked it and Long is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Hagen!
