PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Andy Burns (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Ruben Kyed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burns comes to the cage accompanied by Jai Paul - BTSTU. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Andy Burns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Ruben Kyed!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Paul Tew and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns fails with the takedown
and Kyed counters with a left and a right that stings Burns.

Kyed throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Burns was covering up waiting for the punch and Kyed finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Kyed must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kyed pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Burns is keeping the position for now.
Kyed scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Kyed wanted to stand there but Burns had control of the position.
Burns wants to stand and escape but Kyed is having none of it.

Burns pushes Kyed off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Burns shoots in for a double leg but Kyed sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Kyed shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kyed was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Burns is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Kyed lands with some strikes.
Kyed trying to control but Burns is having none of it.
Burns wants to get back to his feet.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Burns is squirming around, avoiding Kyed's attempts to control the action.
Burns squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Kyed throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Kyed tries to control but Burns wriggling away.
Burns is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Kyed can't control as he wanted to and Burns manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

Burns tries to kick Kyed off but Kyed keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
It looks like Kyed is going to stand back up.
Kyed trying to control from half guard but Burns is working away.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mark Ruben Kyed wasn't active enough on the ground.
Kyed throws a head kick but Burns moves out of range.
Kyed stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Kyed moves into the clinch successfully.
Burns really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Kyed stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kyed wants it to stay on the feet.
Burns fails to land the takedown.
Burns is breathing heavily.
Kyed lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Kyed dodges the punch combination from Burns.
Kyed misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kyed misses with a few strikes there.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Burns shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Burns stops Kyed from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Ruben Kyed dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Burns shoots for a double leg takedown but Kyed sprawls well. He's pushed Burns's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kyed slips a jab and a cross from Burns.
Kyed misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

and Kyed counters with a nice double leg into side control. Burns won't be happy with that.
Kyed tries to score with some ground and pound. Burns controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Kyed tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Kyed prevents Burns from escaping the position.
Burns regains half guard there - taking advantage of Kyed's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Burns is looking to escape.

Kyed decides to stand up.
Burns throws a sloppy head kick and Kyed moves out of range easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Burns has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Burns there as he acknowledges the shot.
Burns throws a left and a right that both miss
and Kyed counters with a left to the body.

Kyed dives in and scores a takedown into Burns's guard.
Kyed wants to get up but he can't break Burns's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Burns manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Burns showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Kyed.
Kyed tries to score a power double leg takedown but Burns sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Kyed somewhat.

Burns tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kyed swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Burns fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kyed avoids it really well and circles away.

and Kyed counters with a big head kick but Burns shrugs it off.
Burns tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kyed sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Burns somewhat.
Kyed throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kyed shoots in and drives through. Burns sprawls well.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Ruben Kyed showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Burns shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kyed as he avoids it easily.
Kyed lands a lovely overhand right.
Burns looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kyed throws a right and a left that Burns avoids nicely.

Kyed has Burns up against the cage in a clinch.
Burns is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kyed gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Burns. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Burns drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Kyed manages to break the clinch.
Kyed will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kyed misses with a hook.
Andy Burns has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kyed dives in and grabs Burns's left leg, looking for a takedown. Burns pushes down on Kyed's head and hops out.

and Kyed holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Kyed scores with a shot to the side of Burns's head.

Kyed's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kyed closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Burns makes his way to full guard, as Kyed worked for a kimura.

Burns wriggles free and stands up.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Nice defenses there by Kyed.
Kyed swinging wildly here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burns lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kyed circles away quickly and effectively.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Andy Burns.
Well Kyed has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
