Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Stig Helmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of New York, Mike Hoiles!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Columbo Gatti and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Helmer closes the distance and clinches up with Hoiles, looking for a takedown. Helmer pushes Hoiles against the cage but Hoiles circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Helmer scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Helmer connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Hoiles some visible discomfort.

Helmer is trying to get an arm triangle but Hoiles is defending well.
Helmer misses with an attempted head punch from side control.

Helmer is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Hoiles is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hoiles is trying to get back to half guard.
Hoiles takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Helmer tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Helmer has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Helmer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Helmer is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hoiles has escaped the position, nice work there.

Helmer in side control, throwing shots but Hoiles defends.

Helmer looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Hoiles is avoiding damage well.
Helmer tries to score with some ground and pound. Hoiles controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Hoiles is looking for a sweep.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hoiles wants to control but Helmer postures up.

Helmer cracks Hoiles with a big right hand but Hoiles just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Hoiles is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Helmer is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Hoiles looks calm but he's in trouble here. Helmer gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Hoiles is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Helmer lets go of the hold and Hoiles can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Stig Helmer!
