PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Abrams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gerry Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Abrams comes into the arena with Kreator - Violent Revolution blaring out of the sound system. Kelly has chosen Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Abrams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gerry Kelly!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Lou da Vinci and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Abrams fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Kelly checks it well.
Abrams cracks the inside of Kelly's front leg.
Abrams looks to clinch
and Kelly counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Abrams throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Abrams throws the left hand but Kelly avoids the punch easily.
Kelly connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Kelly blocks the body kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Abrams ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kelly moves away.
Kelly connects with a jab.
Abrams tries to clinch but Kelly is having none of it.
Abrams tries to clinch up
letting Kelly counter with a right hand.

Abrams circles away from the clinch attempt.
Abrams throws a body punch but Kelly moves out of range.
Abrams cracks Kelly with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.


It looks like Gerry Kelly has been cut.

Kelly drives through and clinches with Abrams against the cage.
Kelly prevents a body shot from Abrams.
Abrams blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Kelly lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Abrams.
Abrams blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Kelly lands an uppercut.
Kelly has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Abrams avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Kelly has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Kelly misses with a hook to the ribs.
Kelly goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Abrams is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kelly can't find room to land a body shot as Abrams controls the action.

Abrams wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Kelly has him pressed against the cage.

Kelly throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Abrams goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Abrams is trying to maintain a safe position but Kelly gets an underhook and turns Abrams into the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kelly creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Abrams swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Abrams's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Abrams fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Kelly missing with a left hand there. Abrams was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Abrams thows a body shot but no joy.
Abrams tries to clinch up
and Kelly counters with a left and a right that stings Abrams.

Abrams fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kelly manages to avoid it.

Kelly takes the fight into the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Kelly.
Kelly misses with a hook to the ribs.
Kelly lands a right hand that snaps the head of Abrams backwards.
Kelly goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Abrams misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Abrams goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Kelly misses with a hook to the ribs.
Abrams can't get the takedown.
Abrams misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Kelly.
Kelly on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
A nice right hand lands inside from Kelly.
Abrams prevents a takedown attempt there.
Kelly misses with a punch on the inside.
Abrams blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Kelly has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Abrams after a bit of a struggle.
James Abrams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gerry Kelly.
Abrams's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Abrams is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Kelly looks gassed!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Abrams working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Abrams lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Kelly.
Abrams crunches a lovely knee into Kelly's ribcage.
Abrams misses with a punch to the body.
Kelly prevents Abrams from breaking the clinch.

Abrams pushes Kelly back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Kelly has a couple of punches blocked by Abrams.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Abrams blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Kelly tries to work over Abrams's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Kelly misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Abrams misses with a body punch.
Abrams lands an uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Abrams dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Gerry Kelly's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Good work by Kelly as he checks the leg kick.
Abrams fails in his attempt to clinch.
Abrams throws a left and a right that both miss

and Kelly counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Kelly is stalling in the full guard.
Abrams is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Abrams slows the pace down in half guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up because James Abrams just wasn't active enough.
Kelly ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Abrams moves away.
Abrams is looking to wear down Kelly with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Abrams lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A jab lands there for Abrams.


That has opened up Gerry Kelly's cut even more.
Abrams fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Abrams scores with a jab to the body.
Kelly is breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kelly takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Abrams lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kelly at a distance.
Abrams wants to slow Kelly down by chopping away at his legs.
Kelly fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Abrams throws a chopping leg kick but Kelly manages to avoid taking any serious damage.

Abrams gets a clinch.

Kelly breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
James Abrams is winning the standup battle so far.

Abrams cracks Kelly with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Abrams has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Kelly to stand back up!


Kelly is rocked!
Kelly is aggressively charging in as Abrams backs up avoiding any damage. Abrams tosses out a jab and Kelly runs right into it face first! Kelly is out cold! Abrams dropped down on all fours and is barking in Kelly's face like a pit bull in celebration until the ref was finally able to pull him away!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). James Abrams!
During a confident post fight interview, James Abrams thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
