The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Curran throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Skallagrimson dives in and grabs Curran's left leg, looking for a takedown. Curran pushes down on Skallagrimson's head and hops out. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Skallagrimson is defended easily by Curran. Skallagrimson tries for a takedown but Curran sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hlynur Skallagrimson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Skallagrimson dives in and grabs Curran's left leg, looking for a takedown. Curran pushes down on Skallagrimson's head and hops out. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Curran lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Curran. Skallagrimson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Skallagrimson with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Skallagrimson working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Skallagrimson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Curran manages to avoid the submission attempt. Curran wants to get back to his feet. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Curran can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Skallagrimson tries for a kimura but Curran is defending well. Skallagrimson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Curran has escaped the position, nice work there. Skallagrimson has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Curran is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Skallagrimson yanks on the arm and Curran is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Skallagrimson.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Hlynur Skallagrimson! After the fight, Hlynur Skallagrimson was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
