Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shuuji Hanamoto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcelo Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie has chosen as his entrance music. Marcelo Gracie has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shuuji Hanamoto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 3, fighting out of Tokyo, Marcelo Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie scores with a hook to the body. Hanamoto takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Hanamoto slips a straight right by Gracie.

Hanamoto closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Hanamoto is trying to control. Gracie wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hanamoto is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Gracie reverses the position - he's now on top in Hanamoto's guard.

Gracie is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Hanamoto not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Gracie is looking to work some ground and pound but Hanamoto has wrist control.
Gracie throws a big right hand that misses.
Gracie trying to control but Hanamoto is working from the bottom.

Gracie drops back looking for a leg! Hanamoto is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hanamoto manages to kick Gracie off! Gracie jumps back into Hanamoto's guard.

Gracie trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Hanamoto manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Hanamoto seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Shuuji Hanamoto just wasn't active enough.

Hanamoto shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gracie's guard.

Hanamoto is looking to advance position but Gracie has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Gracie misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Gracie lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.


It looks like Shuuji Hanamoto has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie cracks Hanamoto with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Gracie working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hanamoto is in all sorts of trouble here.

Gracie thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Hanamoto wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Gracie.

Gracie unloads with some shots from mount but Hanamoto bucks and avoids them well.
Gracie fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Gracie misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Hanamoto tries to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Gracie looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Hanamoto is squirming around, avoiding Gracie's attempts to control the action.
Hanamoto takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.


Hanamoto is rocked!


Shuuji Hanamoto's cut is getting worse.

Gracie is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hanamoto is surviving well by controlling Gracie's body position as best he can.
Oh Hanamoto is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Gracie lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hanamoto hang on?


Jeez, Shuuji Hanamoto's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Shuuji Hanamoto's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Marcelo Gracie!
Marcelo Gracie seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
