PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sol Badguy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sol Badguy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chuck White!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Edson Gomes and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White fails with the takedown.
A looping hook to the body misses from Badguy. White does a little dance to reset his feet.
Badguy lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Horrible takedown by White or perhaps it was just good defense by Badguy which made him look bad.
Badguy doesn't manage to clinch there - White circles away.
Badguy tries to clinch up but White circles away and keeps his distance.
Sol Badguy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Badguy instigates a clinch.
Badguy really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
White tries to score a body lock takedown but Badguy shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Sol Badguy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chuck White.

White is looking to control Badguy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can White avoid being mounted?
Badguy will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
It looks like Badguy is going to stand back up.
White controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White wants to control but Badguy is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Chuck White was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Badguy loads up on a big right hand but White slips the punch.
Badguy tries to close the distance and clinch up but White swats him away and circles back towards the center.

White drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Badguy tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but White wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
White throws a strike aimed at the side of Badguy's head but Badguy avoids it well.

White tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
White working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Badguy wants to control but White postures up.

White is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Badguy has escaped the position, nice work there.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
This has been an exciting period of action!
White looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Badguy is avoiding damage well.

White creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Badguy sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
White misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

White creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Badguy sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

White is pressing down on Badguy's thigh, looking to free his foot. Badguy is holding on for now.
Badguy is trying to defend against the ground and pound but White scores with a couple of nice shots.
Badguy tries to get to full guard but White has control of the leg.
White throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
White missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
White wants to free his trapped foot but Badguy is holding on for dear life with his legs.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
White is trying to control the action in half guard but Badguy is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
White is taking a breather. Badguy says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
This has been an exciting period of action!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



White shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Badguy's guard.
White postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Badguy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in White's guard.
White has a closed guard, preventing Badguy from standing up.
White has Badguy pulled in close to control his posture.
Badguy wants to stand but White has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
White is pulling down on Badguy's head. It's preventing any offense from Badguy, at least for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sol Badguy.
Badguy lands with a good body shot.
White wants to clinch.
Badguy tries to close the distance and clinch up but White swats him away and circles back towards the center.

White fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Badguy avoids it really well and circles away.

White bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

White throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
White postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Badguy parries the strikes from White easily there. White is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Badguy to escape.
Chuck White has got the better of the ground game so far.
Badguy is not content to let White control the position.
White might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Badguy kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Badguy sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

White throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Badguy holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
White is trying to control. Badguy wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Badguy moves into full guard.
White stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Badguy swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Badguy has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes White off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

and White counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Badguy!
Badguy is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, White cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Badguy wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by White.
White tries to control but Badguy wriggling away.
Badguy is in all sorts of trouble here.
White can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Badguy is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
White throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chuck White showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



The fight moves into the clinch position.

White breaks the clinch.
Badguy catches White with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
White throws a jab but it's blocked by Badguy.
White misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
White shoots for a takedown but Badguy saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Badguy tries to close the distance and clinch up but White swats him away and circles back towards the center.

White shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Badguy manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

White in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
White has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

White throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Badguy tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. White is in Badguy's guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Chuck White comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got White winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
