18 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Chad Carlson Jr! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Chris Edwards and James Atkins.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Carlson Jr misses with a series of wild punches.
Diaz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Carlson Jr with a hook. Carlson Jr clinches up against the cage. Carlson Jr lands a takedown into guard.
Carlson Jr trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom. Carlson Jr controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Diaz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round.
We're going to have a standup here because Joko Diaz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Carlson Jr scores with a nice head shot. Diaz misses with a kick to the body.
Diaz swings for the body but Carlson Jr moves out of range.
Carlson Jr throws a right and a left that both miss. Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carlson Jr as he avoids it easily. Carlson Jr avoids the body shot from Diaz.
Diaz uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Carlson Jr. Diaz misses with a body shot.
Diaz shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Carlson Jr defends it nicely. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joko Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Carlson Jr fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Diaz on the side of the head. Carlson Jr moves into the clinch. Carlson Jr has picked Diaz up - he's going for a ride! Carlson Jr dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz wants to control but Carlson Jr is keeping busy.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Diaz moves into full guard.
Carlson Jr with a flurry of punches that miss. Diaz striking off his back but it's not causing Carlson Jr any problems. Diaz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Diaz working a defensive guard here.
Diaz tries to land a sweep but no joy. Carlson Jr trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Diaz working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Carlson Jr. Diaz is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Carlson Jr frees his head nicely. Oh but Diaz has switched to an armbar! Carlson Jr is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
