PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Julian Subatoi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yoshimitsu Tajiri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Subatoi's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Like A Surgeon By Weird Al Yankovic. Tajiri has chosen Asiattacker by Jim Johnston as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Julian Subatoi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Yoshimitsu Tajiri!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tajiri avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

Subatoi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Tajiri looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Subatoi is looking to take a break and control but Tajiri is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Subatoi looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Tajiri can't do much from the bottom here.

Subatoi working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Tajiri wants to control but Subatoi postures up.

Subatoi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Subatoi wants to stand but Tajiri has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Subatoi doesn't manage to clinch there - Tajiri circles away.

Subatoi drives through and clinches with Tajiri against the cage.

Subatoi wants to improve his position but instead Tajiri has moved into half guard.

Subatoi tries to roll over but Tajiri keeps him under control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Subatoi is working hard here to advance position.
Tajiri is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Tajiri tries to stand but can't do so whilst Subatoi controls his leg.
Subatoi is in trouble now - Tajiri has advanced to mount!

Subatoi wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Subatoi manages to reverse the position and now he's in Tajiri's guard. Nice work there by Subatoi.
Subatoi wants to pass the guard but Tajiri is keeping the position.
Tajiri controls Subatoi momentarily but Subatoi frees himself.
Subatoi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Subatoi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tajiri dives on top into guard.
Subatoi is breathing heavily.
Subatoi wants to sweep but no luck.

That was a close round but I would say that Julian Subatoi will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Subatoi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Subatoi moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Tajiri has worked his arm free - good work by Tajiri!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Tajiri manages to work his way to half guard, despite Subatoi's best efforts.
Tajiri moves into full guard.

Subatoi drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tajiri dives on top into guard.
Tajiri slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Subatoi manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Tajiri is defending against the submission attempts here by Subatoi.
Subatoi tries to pass to full mount but Tajiri defends it.
Subatoi is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Tajiri!
Tajiri wants to hold on but Subatoi pushes him away.

Subatoi swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Tajiri is now in Subatoi's guard. A big mistake from Subatoi there, giving up the dominant position!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Subatoi manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Tajiri tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Subatoi trying to control but Tajiri is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Julian Subatoi will probably get the nod.

Tajiri throws a sloppy head kick and Subatoi moves out of range easily.
Tajiri misses with a head kick.

Subatoi clinches up against the cage.
Tajiri misses with a punch to the body.
Subatoi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Subatoi goes for a takedown attempt but Tajiri pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Horrible takedown by Subatoi or perhaps it was just good defense by Tajiri which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Julian Subatoi. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tajiri moves out of range as Subatoi throws a body kick.
Subatoi shoots in for a double leg but Tajiri sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Tajiri stuffs the takedown attempt from Subatoi. Subatoi gets slowly back to his feet.

Tajiri tries a head kick but it misses.
Julian Subatoi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Subatoi throws a leg kick but Tajiri checks it.
Tajiri tries to clinch up but Subatoi circles away and keeps his distance.
Tajiri tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Subatoi paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Tajiri thuds a left hand into Subatoi's body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tajiri moves in looking to clinch but Subatoi pushes him off.
Tajiri fails with an attempt to clinch.
Tajiri tries a head kick but it misses.

Subatoi drives through with a takedown into guard.
Subatoi looking to sit in guard and control but Tajiri gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Subatoi has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Tajiri is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Subatoi.

Subatoi has control of an arm but Tajiri manages to advance to Tajiri's back!
Subatoi looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Tajiri is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Tajiri gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Tajiri gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Tajiri apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Subatoi throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Tajiri shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Subatoi as he avoids it easily.
Tajiri pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Tajiri shoots in but no luck this time.
The fight stays on the outside here - Tajiri looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Subatoi gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Subatoi prevents Tajiri from breaking the clinch.
Subatoi connects with a knee to the head.
Tajiri tries to score a body lock takedown but Subatoi shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Tajiri wants a takedown but no success here.

Subatoi controls Tajiri momentarily but Tajiri frees himself.

Subatoi looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Subatoi isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Tajiri stacks Subatoi on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Tajiri!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Julian Subatoi.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Subatoi, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
