PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ted DiBiase (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Valens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Valens is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit. Jimmy Valens has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ted DiBiase!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jimmy Valens!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DiBiase shoots in looking for a takedown. Valens tries to sprawl out of it but DiBiase keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Valens manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

DiBiase gets the takedown into side control.
DiBiase wants to take a breather but Valens manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for DiBiase.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
DiBiase is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
DiBiase trying to control but Valens is working from the bottom.

Valens keeping full guard, as DiBiase tries to pass.

DiBiase postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Valens is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of DiBiase, into his guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Valens wanted to stand there but DiBiase had control of the position.

DiBiase is working an open guard so Valens takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jimmy Valens seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

DiBiase shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. DiBiase showed some decent athleticism there.
Valens is not content to let DiBiase control the position.

DiBiase wants to free his trapped foot but Valens is holding on for dear life with his legs.

DiBiase is working for a submission of some sort.

DiBiase is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Valens has managed to free his arm - good work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

DiBiase seems to be looking for submissions.
DiBiase is breathing heavily.
Valens pushes DiBiase off looking to stand but DiBiase dives back in and keeps control.
DiBiase wants to pass the guard but Valens is defending well.

DiBiase shoots for a takedown but Valens saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Valens throws a series of punches but DiBiase avoids them all with ease.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

DiBiase shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
DiBiase controlling the pace for now.

DiBiase has hold of Valens's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Valens manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

DiBiase tries to control but Valens wriggling away.
DiBiase pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Valens is trying to stand but he's just given DiBiase his back.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ted DiBiase dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


DiBiase has a takedown stuffed.
DiBiase will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
DiBiase checks the leg kick nicely there.
Valens stuffs the takedown attempt from DiBiase. DiBiase gets slowly back to his feet.

Valens shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Ted DiBiase is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Valens wants to slow DiBiase down by chopping away at his legs.
Valens looks to score with a jab to the body but DiBiase is just out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Valens tries to close the distance and clinch but DiBiase swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Valens throws a low kick, looking for DiBiase's leg but DiBiase calmly moves out of range.
DiBiase takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Valens fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but DiBiase is out of range.
DiBiase closes this distance looking for a takedown but Valens circles away.
DiBiase shoots in but no luck this time.

Excellent takedown into side control there by DiBiase.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
DiBiase trying to control the position but Valens is working away.

DiBiase tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no DiBiase has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Valens is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Valens is not content to let DiBiase control the position.

DiBiase wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Valens, who protects the arm well.

Valens is pushing DiBiase's head away, looking to escape. DiBiase manages to hold on to the position though.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Valens misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from DiBiase.
DiBiase shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Valens but Valens pushes him off and we're back to square one.

DiBiase looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

DiBiase seems to be working for a kimura but Valens defends the submission attempt.

DiBiase seems to be looking for submissions.

DiBiase looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for DiBiase, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
