PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between War Machine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Dyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dyer is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: go hard. War Machine is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, War Machine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Danny Dyer!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machine clobbers Dyer with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Machine swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Dyer.
Dyer misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Machine misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Dyer gets a double leg takedown into Machine's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Dyer is pushing down on Machine's leg trying to pass to half guard. Machine is fighting to maintain full guard but Dyer has managed to sneak the leg through.

Dyer is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Machine doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dyer.

Dyer is trying to control. Machine wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Ground and pound from Dyer.
Machine is refusing to be controlled, as Dyer sits in half guard.
Machine is trying to stand back up but Dyer is controlling him

Dyer stands up and beckons Machine to join him on the feet.
Machine blocks the body kick.
Machine misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Machine rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Dyer counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Dyer postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Dyer working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Machine's head.

Dyer stands up and waves to Machine to follow him.
Machine misses with an uppercut. Dyer saw that one coming.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Machine's jab looks to have found its range, popping Dyer under the eye.
Machine scores with a sloppy right hand. Dyer should have avoided that one.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Machine enables Dyer to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Machine manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Dyer decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Machine, up you get!
Machine throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Dyer closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Machine's guard.

Dyer moves into the clinch successfully.
Dyer keeps control of Machine as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Dyer tries to pull guard but Machine holds him up against the cage and eventually Dyer drops back down to his feet.
Machine tries to break the clinch but Dyer is controlling the position.

Dyer decides to pull guard.

Dyer has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Machine off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Dyer is looking to clinch.
Dyer takes one to the chin there.

Dyer takes the fight into the clinch.
Dyer prevents Machine from breaking the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dyer digs a right hand underneath Machine's ribcage. Machine let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Machine prevents a takedown attempt there.

Dyer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Machine misses with a hook. Dyer ducked under it nicely.
Machine throws a big shot that misses.
The fighters circle momentarily. Machine darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Machine lands a nice looking body kick.
Dyer bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dyer takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Machine takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Dyer clinches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Dyer dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Machine throws a shot from downtown. Dyer moves away and avoids it.
A slow jab from Machine misses its intended target.
Dyer slips under a jab.
Dyer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Dyer pushes Machine up against the cage in a clinch.
Machine tries to break the clinch but Dyer is controlling the position.

Dyer has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Machine is trying to keep an underhook but Dyer manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Dyer not doing much here.

Dyer decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Dyer shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Machine as he avoids it easily.

Dyer needs to keep his hands up - Machine had a free shot at his head there.
Machine lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Dyer takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Machine lands a high kick!

Dyer feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Dyer is breathing heavily.
Machine is trying to keep Dyer in close.
Machine wants to hit a switch here but Dyer passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Machine there!
Machine wants to hold on but Dyer pushes him away.

Machine is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Machine is squirming around, avoiding Dyer's attempts to control the action.

Dyer can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Machine is looking to escape.
Machine might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Dyer looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Machine tries to hold on but Dyer pushes him away.
Dyer lands with some strikes.
Machine wants to control but Dyer is having none of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machine is desperately trying to improve his position but Dyer has a good base and remains in mount.
Dyer controlling from mount.
Machine knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Dyer on the ground.
Dyer postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Machine looks a forlorn figure.
Machine can't escape the position.

Dyer sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Dyer gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
War Machine is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dyer slips a straight right by Machine.
Machine throws a lazy uppercut

and Dyer counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dyer.

Dyer pulls guard.
Dyer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dyer uses the cage to get back to his feet.
War Machine seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Dyer.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dyer gets a clinch.
Dyer is pushing Machine up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Dyer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Dyer rushes Machine and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Dyer lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Machine.
Machine gets underhooks to prevent Dyer's takedown attempt.

Dyer tightens his grip and picks Machine up, before dumping him to the ground. Machine manages to land in guard.
Machine keeping moving, preventing Dyer from controlling successfully.
Machine is trying to control the position but Dyer postures up.
Dyer sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Machine trying to keep a closed guard but Dyer is proving a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dyer shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Machine but Machine pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Dyer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Machine stuns Dyer with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Dyer takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Machine swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Machine scores with a head kick. Dyer tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Machine throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
A looping hook to the body misses from Machine. Dyer does a little dance to reset his feet.
War Machine is winning the standup battle so far.
Machine connects with a right hand. Dyer shakes it off.
Dyer throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.

Dyer shoots in and bounces Machine off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Dyer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dyer stops Machine from standing up.
Dyer tries to free his leg and advance position but Machine is retaining full guard.
Dyer passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Machine taking a bit of punishment here - Dyer scoring with strikes.

Dyer is looking to take a break and control but Machine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Machine tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dyer wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Machine takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
War Machine has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Dyer stands up and beckons Machine to his feet.
Dyer ducks under a wild hook from Machine.

Dyer closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dyer working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Dyer is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Machine knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Dyer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Danny Dyer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Dyer winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
