PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Warren Train (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Gustavsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Warren Train!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alexander Gustavsson!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, William Gold and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Train loads up on a big right hand but Gustavsson slips the punch.
Gustavsson shoots for a takedown but Train saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gustavsson doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Train counters with a nice uppercut.
Gustavsson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Train counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Warren Train has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alexander Gustavsson.
Gustavsson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Train swivels and escapes.
Gustavsson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Train finds it's way round the side to connect with Gustavsson's head.
Train looks to land a left hand but Gustavsson moved out of range nicely.

Train stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Train wants it to stay on the feet.

enabling Gustavsson to counter with a crisp jab.
Gustavsson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Train sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gustavsson somewhat.

Train shoots in and bounces Gustavsson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Gustavsson is looking for a triangle but Train pushes his legs off easily.
Gustavsson looks gassed!
Train is stalling in the full guard.
Train trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gustavsson keeping moving, preventing Train from controlling successfully.
Train stops Gustavsson from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Train drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Train jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Train trying to control the position from guard on top but Gustavsson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Train slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Train is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gustavsson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Train wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gustavsson, who protects the arm well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gustavsson is trying to get back to his feet.

Train tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Train is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gustavsson has escaped the position, nice work there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Train is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gustavsson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Train tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Train has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Gustavsson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Train is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Gustavsson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Gustavsson wants to get back to his feet but Train drags him back down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Train goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Gustavsson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Train's guard! Nice work there by Gustavsson!

Train escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Gustavsson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Train has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gustavsson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Train is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Warren Train dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Train misses with a body shot
and Gustavsson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Gustavsson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Train throws a lazy uppercut

and Gustavsson counters with a nice double leg into side control. Train won't be happy with that.
Train is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gustavsson off and has taken his back!

Gustavsson is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Train gets his way!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Train working for a choke but Gustavsson reverses nicely into Train 's guard.
Train on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Train tries to get out of the position.

Train has his foot on Gustavsson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gustavsson works his way back into a safe position though.

Train lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Gustavsson!
Gustavsson tries to lock up and control but Train gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Train is dominating on the ground here - he's now on his opponent's back, looking to sink in the hooks. Gustavsson is in real trouble.

Train patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gustavsson rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Train is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Gustavsson has managed to free his arm - good work.
Train is looking to advance position but Gustavsson won't allow it.

Gustavsson is trying to stand.

Train looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Train is trying to work for a kimura but Gustavsson is defending well.
Warren Train overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gustavsson is in trouble now - Train has advanced to mount!

Gustavsson looks out of his depth in this position - he's holding on tight.

Train working for a submission but Gustavsson is keeping him at bay.
Gustavsson tries to hold on but Train postures up.
Gustavsson is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Gustavsson is trying to reverse the position but instead Train has taken his back - oops!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Train has got one arm under Gustavsson's chin. This could be trouble... Gustavsson trying to control the other hand but Train gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Gustavsson has tapped out! The fight is over!
