Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Renato Cardoso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mateus Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cardoso comes to the cage accompanied by Samba de Janeiro. Renato Cardoso has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Hugh Johnson and Damien Edna.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie moves away from the strike by Cardoso.
Cardoso shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gracie as he avoids it easily.
Gracie scores with a kick to the midsection.
Gracie throws a quick inside leg kick.
Gracie scores with a head kick.

It looks like Renato Cardoso has been cut.
Cardoso looking to land some kicks to the body here.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Cardoso checks a leg kick.
Gracie misses with a series of wild punches.
Gracie throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Cardoso tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gracie paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Cardoso feints and as Gracie raises his hands in defense, Cardoso changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Gracie trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Cardoso wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.
Gracie has his hands on Cardoso's head, controlling the position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cardoso trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gracie manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cardoso manages to get himself to full guard.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Cardoso is retaining full guard.
Gracie postures up in Cardoso's guard and throws a big left but Cardoso blocks it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie wants to pass the guard but Cardoso is keeping the position.
Cardoso utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Gracie chips away with some ground and pound.
Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Cardoso regains half guard, as Gracie was trying to land strikes.
Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Cardoso wants to get back to full guard.
Gracie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Gracie lands with a punch from half guard.

Gracie works his way into side control.

Gracie swings around for an armbar but Cardoso sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Gracie's guard.
Gracie pulls Cardoso in close to his closed guard and prevents Cardoso from doing any damage or advancing position.
Gracie wants to improve his position but instead Cardoso has moved into half guard.
Cardoso misses with a head shot. Gracie uses the momentum to regain guard.
Gracie not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gracie is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gracie is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gracie is on top in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cardoso works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gracie is working Cardoso over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Gracie landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Gracie is looking for a kimura here.
Gracie works his foot free and advances to mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gracie throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Cardoso because Gracie loaded up on that one.
Cardoso is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Gracie lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Cardoso is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gracie postures up and throws a massive shot that knocks Cardoso out cold! Two more strikes to his unconscious opponent for good luck and this one is all over! Gracie goes absolutely crazy with his corner! Wow, you can see how much that win means to him!
