Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Akira Ishikawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kid Koala (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ishikawa comes to the cage accompanied by mindshift genki sudo. Akira Ishikawa had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Akira Ishikawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kid Koala!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Koala pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Koala misses with a double jab.
Koala swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ishikawa takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Kid Koala seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A decent looking cross lands there for Koala.
Ishikawa shoots in but no luck this time.
Ishikawa throws a head kick but Koala moves out of range.
Ishikawa misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Ishikawa shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Ishikawa is working for a kimura but Koala is defending it quite comfortably.

Ishikawa is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Koala really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ishikawa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Koala is staying active underneath Ishikawa, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Ishikawa takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Ishikawa connects with a nice short shot to Koala's temple.

Ishikawa tries to pass the half guard into mount. Koala knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Ishikawa looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Ishikawa is looking to take a break and control but Koala is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Akira Ishikawa just wasn't active enough.

and Ishikawa counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Koala's guard now.

Ishikawa's corner is telling him to maintain position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Akira Ishikawa has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

Ishikawa closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Koala to the mat! Koala manages to get full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Akira Ishikawa.

Ishikawa shoots in for a takedown but Koala shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Akira Ishikawa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Koala stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Koala wants it to stay on the feet.
Ishikawa will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ishikawa works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Ishikawa connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Koala some visible discomfort.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Ishikawa cracks Koala with a big right hand but Koala just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Koala managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Ishikawa.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ishikawa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ishikawa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Ishikawa throws some wild stikes that Koala manages to avoid easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ishikawa postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Koala looks a forlorn figure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Akira Ishikawa dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Ishikawa is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Koala can't fight it off and eventually Ishikawa manages to take the fight to the floor. Koala looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Koala takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ishikawa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Ishikawa decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Ishikawa has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Koala clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Ishikawa looking to break Koala's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Koala remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Ishikawa will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Kid Koala has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ishikawa has good solid back control here.

Ishikawa has his arm under Koala's chin here. Game over son! Ishikawa squeezes tightly and Koala is forced to tap out!
