PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Dejesus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jax Teller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jax Teller struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 157.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Jax Teller is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Douglas Dejesus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jax Teller!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Teller moves into the clinch successfully.
Teller is trying to break free.
Dejesus tries to land knees in the clinch but Teller avoids the damage to the body.

Dejesus gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Dejesus trying to control from Teller's half guard. Teller has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Dejesus drops back looking for a leg! Teller is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Teller manages to kick Dejesus off! Dejesus jumps back into Teller's guard.
Dejesus throws a big right hand that misses.
Dejesus looking to pass the guard.
Teller keeping moving, preventing Dejesus from controlling successfully.
Teller is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Dejesus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Teller swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dejesus is looking to work some ground and pound but Teller has wrist control.
Dejesus wants to get up but he can't break Teller's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Dejesus drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dejesus jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Dejesus got a little sloppy there for a moment and Teller has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dejesus has managed to get both his arms back between Teller's legs - danger averted.

Teller looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Dejesus has picked Teller up and slammed him! Teller can't keep hold of the triangle and Dejesus manages to pass to side control!

Dejesus slows the pace down.
Dejesus trying to control the action but Teller is working from the bottom.
Dejesus tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Teller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dejesus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dejesus tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Dejesus is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Teller knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Dejesus wants to lay and pray for a moment but Teller keeps working.

Teller is holding Dejesus down, trying to stall.
Dejesus in side control lands a decent elbow.
Dejesus moves into full mount!
Dejesus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Dejesus tries to control but Teller wriggling away.

Dejesus working for a guillotine from mount but Teller is in no mood to give up.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Dejesus looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Dejesus punching from mount but Teller doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Teller tries to hold on but Dejesus pushes him away.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Douglas Dejesus dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Teller throws a combination. Dejesus tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Dejesus shoots in but no luck this time.
Teller tries to bum rush Dejesus with a series of wild strikes but Dejesus uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Teller leaves Dejesus with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Dejesus tries to keep at a distance but Teller has taken the fight into the clinch.
Dejesus goes for a takedown attempt but Teller pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Douglas Dejesus. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Teller counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Teller shoots in and gets a takedown into Dejesus's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Teller passes Dejesus's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Dejesus moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Dejesus keeping moving, preventing Teller from controlling successfully.
Teller must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dejesus lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Teller!

Dejesus is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Teller can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Dejesus wants to take Teller's back but he can't do it this time.
Dejesus avoids the attempt from Teller to control.
Dejesus sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Dejesus looking to control but Teller is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Teller is trying desperately to improve position.

Dejesus has control of Teller's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Teller regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Dejesus tries to control but Teller wriggling away.
Teller can't escape the position.

Teller tries to hold on but Dejesus pushes him away.
Dejesus throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Teller because Dejesus loaded up on that one.
Teller gives up his back whilst trying to strike.
Dejesus trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.

Dejesus looking to break Teller's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Teller remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Dejesus will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dejesus has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Teller has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Teller is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Dejesus closes the distance and clinches up with Teller, looking for a takedown. Dejesus pushes Teller against the ropes but Teller circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Dejesus looks for a takedown but Teller sprawls well.
Teller shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dejesus as he avoids it easily.
A jab lands there for Teller.

Teller is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Dejesus is defending well.
Dejesus goes for a takedown in the clinch but Teller prevents it.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Teller is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Teller is trying to force a seperation but Dejesus has the dominant position.

Dejesus escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Teller clinches up against the ropes.
Teller goes for a takedown attempt but Dejesus pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Dejesus jumps guard and drags Teller to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Teller trying to control the position from guard on top but Dejesus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Dejesus is trying to control the position but Teller postures up.

Teller wants to stand but Dejesus has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Teller looking to sit in guard and control but Dejesus gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Dejesus throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Teller works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Dejesus stands up from Teller's guard - Dejesus perhaps looking for a knockout.

Teller drives through and clinches with Dejesus against the ropes.

Jax Teller has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Dejesus passes Teller's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Dejesus is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Dejesus is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Teller looks like he's trying to stand up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I would just about give that final round to Jax Teller.
I think Dejesus has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
