PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Curran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fudo Hokoyashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bryan Curran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Fudo Hokoyashi!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Curran is looking to clinch.
Hokoyashi shoots for a takedown but Curran saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hokoyashi throws a head kick that misses.
Curran leaves Hokoyashi with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Curran scores with a head kick.
Hokoyashi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Curran paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Curran steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Hokoyashi. That one must have hurt.
Fudo Hokoyashi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Curran is breathing heavily.
Hokoyashi lands with a thumping leg kick.
A head kick misses from Hokoyashi.
Curran shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hokoyashi fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hokoyashi fails with the takedown.
Bryan Curran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fudo Hokoyashi.
Hokoyashi doesn't manage to clinch there - Curran circles away.
A head kick from Hokoyashi lands but Curran takes it in his stride.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Curran stuffs the takedown attempt from Hokoyashi. Hokoyashi gets slowly back to his feet.

Hokoyashi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hokoyashi goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Hokoyashi darts in and clinches Curran up against the cage.
Curran blocks an uppercut.
Hokoyashi tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hokoyashi misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Curran.
Curran on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
With the fighters up against the cage, Hokoyashi throws an elbow but misses.
Hokoyashi tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Hokoyashi wants to take the fight to the mat but Curran manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Curran blocks the elbow strike.
Hokoyashi tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Curran avoids it.
Curran is pressed up against the cage. Hokoyashi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Curran down to the mat. Curran avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Hokoyashi shoots in looking for a takedown. Curran tries to sprawl out of it but Hokoyashi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Curran manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hokoyashi dives in and grabs Curran's left leg, looking for a takedown. Curran pushes down on Hokoyashi's head and hops out.
A head kick misses from Hokoyashi.
Hokoyashi fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Curran is looking to clinch but Hokoyashi is avoiding it.
Hokoyashi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Curran lands with a right hand.
Hokoyashi tries to clinch there but Curran circles away.
Hokoyashi lands with a slapping head kick.
Hokoyashi dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Curran. That did some damage!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hokoyashi throws a head kick that misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hokoyashi.
Hokoyashi throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Curran's head.
Hokoyashi tries to close the distance and clinch but Curran swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hokoyashi shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Curran pinned against the cage. Curran gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Curran takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Hokoyashi throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Hokoyashi lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Curran defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Hokoyashi.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hokoyashi tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Curran manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hokoyashi tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hokoyashi misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hokoyashi throws a head kick but Curran moves out of range.
Hokoyashi throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Hokoyashi shoots in looking for a takedown. Curran tries to sprawl out of it but Hokoyashi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Curran manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck for Curran with that takedown attempt.
Hokoyashi goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hokoyashi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Hokoyashi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fudo Hokoyashi dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Hokoyashi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Curran but Curran pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Curran avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Curran doesn't manage to clinch there - Hokoyashi circles away.
Hokoyashi wants to clinch up but Curran keeps it at a distance.
Curran misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hokoyashi throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Curran.
Hokoyashi tries to close the distance and clinch but Curran swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hokoyashi tries to clinch up.
Hokoyashi throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Hokoyashi lands a head kick. Curran smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Hokoyashi tries to clinch but Curran is having none of it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hokoyashi goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Curran looking to score a takedown here. Hokoyashi is defending well but Curran drives through and ends up in Hokoyashi's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hokoyashi controls Curran momentarily but Curran frees himself.
Hokoyashi wants to stand and escape but Curran is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hokoyashi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hokoyashi landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Hokoyashi winds up and cracks Curran with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hokoyashi is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Nice strikes from Hokoyashi there.
Hokoyashi missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hokoyashi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Curran with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hokoyashi lands a nice short elbow.
Hokoyashi throwing shots but Curran is blocking nicely.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hokoyashi connects with a nice short shot to Curran's temple.

Curran wants to control but Hokoyashi is keeping busy.
Curran is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Curran has hold of Hokoyashi's hands but Hokoyashi slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Hokoyashi takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.


Curran is rocked!
Hokoyashi seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Oh Curran is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hokoyashi is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Fudo Hokoyashi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Curran trying to hold on to Hokoyashi's head to control him but Hokoyashi postures up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hokoyashi lands a massive shot from half guard that has rocked Curran! More strikes land and this one is all over! Hokoyashi jumps to his feet and is applauded loudly by the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fudo Hokoyashi!
Fudo Hokoyashi decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
