PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sam Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Zummi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zummi is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Gummi Bears. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Zummi!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Donald Grub and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zummi scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Nice uppercut lands for Zummi. That snapped Davis's head back.
Davis doesn't manage to clinch there - Zummi circles away.
Davis wants to clinch up but Zummi keeps it at a distance.

Davis moves into the clinch.

Davis jumps into guard, dragging Zummi to the mat.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Davis managing to control the position.
Davis manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Zummi keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Davis avoids the attempt from Zummi to control.
Davis looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.


It looks like Steve Zummi has been cut.
Davis sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zummi for as long as he can get away with.
Zummi is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Davis wants to take Zummi's back here but Zummi is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
Davis throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Zummi because Davis loaded up on that one.
Davis looking to control and managing it successfully.
Davis throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

Zummi can't escape the position.
Davis controlling the position easily from mount.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Sam Davis just wasn't active enough.
Davis uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Zummi.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Davis misses with a jab, cross combination.
Davis ducks right into an uppercut from Zummi.
Davis staying out of range there.
Davis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Zummi counters with a one-two to the body.

Davis takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Nice straight punches there by Zummi. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Zummi.
Zummi keeps the fight on the outside.
Davis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Davis has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Sam Davis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Zummi misses with a looping right.

The crowd cheers as Zummi lands an impressive looking overhand right. Davis doesn't seem phased though.
Zummi lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Zummi throws a hook but Davis avoids it easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Davis.

Zummi manages to break the clinch.
Zummi jabs Davis to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Davis looks for a takedown but Zummi sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sam Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zummi scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Davis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Zummi swivels and escapes.
Zummi bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Davis's head.
Zummi lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Davis tries to score a power double leg takedown but Zummi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Davis somewhat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Davis.
Zummi lands a jab to the nose.

Zummi lands with a cross.
Zummi doesn't manage to clinch there - Davis circles away.
Zummi fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Zummi misses with a few strikes there.
Zummi swinging wildly here.
Davis swats away the attempt to clinch by Zummi.
Zummi tries to clinch but Davis is having none of it.
Zummi lands a glancing blow to the side of Davis's head.

Davis has Zummi up against the cage in a clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Davis's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A lazy left from Zummi finds it's target.

Zummi tries to sprawl but Davis drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Zummi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Davis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Davis escapes and gets back to his feet.
Jab, jab by Zummi - just one landing.
Zummi lands a nice hook to Davis's body. Davis takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Zummi throws a series of strikes that have Davis backpedaling.
Good shot there by Zummi.
Steve Zummi seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Davis walks into a stiff left hand from Zummi.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Zummi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Davis is rocked!
Zummi misses with a series of wild punches.
Oh Davis is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Zummi misses with a double jab.
Zummi throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Zummi looks to land a right hand but Davis moved out of range.
Zummi throws a looping overhand right but Davis ducks down to avoid it.
Zummi throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sam Davis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Davis keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Zummi.
Davis avoids a punch combination nicely.
Zummi looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Zummi throws a big shot that misses.
Zummi looks to land a right hand but Davis moved out of range.
Davis with a poor takedown
and Zummi counters with a big right hand! Oh Davis is in trouble here! Zummi follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
