PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scott King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kostas Drivakis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Drivakis has chosen Ken's Theme as his entrance music. Kostas Drivakis told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Scott King! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kostas Drivakis! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Bruno Hogan and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! King tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Drivakis is able to avoid easily. Drivakis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but King was well out of range. Poor timing from Drivakis. Drivakis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Drivakis wants to stand but King is controlling his arm. King can't do much from the bottom here. Drivakis stands up and we're back to a striking position. King shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Drivakis really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Drivakis tries to lock up and control but King gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The referee warns Drivakis that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
King has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Drivakis's face.
Drivakis tries to reverse the position but King maintains control.
That's one minute gone in the round. King controlling from mount. Drivakis is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

King knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Drivakis on the ground. King lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round. King sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. King seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Drivakis for as long as he can get away with. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Drivakis is trying to escape the mount.
King avoids the attempt from Drivakis to control. Drivakis is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. King tries to control but Drivakis wriggling away.

Drivakis is rocked! King punishing his opponent with strikes. Drivakis is still in real trouble! Can King finish him?
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. King loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Drivakis scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from King land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. King stands and salutes the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:20 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Scott King! Scott King seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
