Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kenny Worner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kerry Mcgee! The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Worner ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mcgee moves away. Worner shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mcgee's guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Worner pushing down on Mcgee's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Worner is breathing heavily. Mcgee preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mcgee slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Mcgee is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Worner is fighting to break Mcgee's control of his arms but Mcgee is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mcgee tries to strike from the bottom.
Mcgee looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Worner knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mcgee on the ground. Mcgee is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Worner might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Kerry Mcgee wasn't active enough on the ground. Mcgee throws a head kick that misses. Mcgee scores with a takedown into Worner's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mcgee is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Worner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mcgee defends it easily. Mcgee passes Worner's left leg - he's now in half guard. Mcgee content to control rather than advance. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mcgee connects with a nice short shot to Worner's temple.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Worner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mcgee is working away from the top position though. Mcgee frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Worner on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Worner tries to get out of the position. Mcgee sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mcgee postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Worner looks a forlorn figure.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mcgee is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Worner can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Mcgee lands a big elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kerry Mcgee dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Worner tries to keep at a distance but Mcgee has taken the fight into the clinch. Mcgee pulls guard successfully.
Mcgee keeping moving, preventing Worner from controlling successfully. Worner is fighting to break Mcgee's control of his arms but Mcgee is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Worner throws an elbow that misses. Mcgee uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Worner's guard. Nice move by Mcgee! Worner wants to improve his position but instead Mcgee has moved into half guard.
Mcgee has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Worner defend it? Mcgee steps over the head and cranks it - Worner is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Mcgee!
