PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cael Sanderson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve McQueen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanderson comes to the cage accompanied by Hurricane. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Steve McQueen was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cael Sanderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve McQueen!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McQueen misses with a takedown

and Sanderson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
McQueen trying to control but Sanderson postures up.
Sanderson tries to pass the half guard into mount. McQueen knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
McQueen slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Sanderson won't allow McQueen to sweep him here.
Sanderson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
McQueen has his hands on Sanderson's head, controlling the position.
McQueen manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sanderson manages to get himself to full guard.
Sanderson wants to stand and escape but McQueen is having none of it.

McQueen tries for a kimura but Sanderson is defending well.

McQueen cracks Sanderson with a big right hand but Sanderson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Sanderson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Sanderson tries to get out of the position.
Sanderson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

McQueen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sanderson takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
McQueen is putting a hurting on Sanderson here, landing some big shots from side control.
Sanderson takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sanderson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McQueen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
McQueen is trying to control Sanderson's posture but Sanderson avoids it.
Sanderson wants to stand but McQueen has his arm trapped.
Sanderson is looking to take a break and control but McQueen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McQueen wants to control but Sanderson postures up.
McQueen gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
McQueen manages to get to full guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
McQueen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Cael Sanderson.
Sanderson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sanderson wants it to stay on the feet.
McQueen tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sanderson swivels and escapes.
McQueen misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Sanderson drops back looking for a leg! McQueen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and McQueen manages to kick Sanderson off! Sanderson jumps back into McQueen's guard.

Sanderson wants to control from the top but McQueen keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McQueen looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
McQueen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Sanderson is trying to get back to full guard.
McQueen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sanderson's head.

McQueen working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
McQueen winds up and cracks Sanderson with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
McQueen looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Still in half guard, McQueen seems content to control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve McQueen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



McQueen closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sanderson did well to prevent McQueen getting side control.
Sanderson pushes McQueen off looking to stand but McQueen dives back in and keeps control.
McQueen slips a nice elbow through Sanderson's hands, connecting with Sanderson's forehead.
McQueen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sanderson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

McQueen maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Sanderson could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but McQueen has cracked it and Sanderson is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by McQueen!

In his post fight interview, Steve McQueen started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
