PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Luke Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Luke Duke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fernando Alves!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Konstantin Menshow and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duke throws a one two combo.
Duke will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Alves fails to land with a series of punches.
Luke Duke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves lands a nice shot to the body.
Duke slips a straight right by Alves.
Alves throws a body punch but Duke moves out of range.

Alves gets a clinch.

Duke breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Alves drives through with a takedown into Duke's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Duke wants to stand up but Alves is controlling him.
Duke keeping moving, preventing Alves from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Alves drops back looking for a leg! Duke is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Duke manages to kick Alves off! Alves jumps back into Duke's guard.
Duke knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground.
Duke is striking off his back. Alves thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Duke really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Duke is defending against the submission attempts here by Alves.
Alves stops Duke from getting back to his feet.
Alves working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Still in half guard, Alves seems content to control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Alves winds up and cracks Duke with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Alves drops an elbow to the side of Duke's head.
Duke pushes Alves off looking to stand but Alves dives back in and keeps control.
Duke gets back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Duke can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Alves controls the pace.
Alves lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Duke is looking to stand up but Alves isn't so interested in that idea.
Duke is breathing heavily.
Alves advances position into side control!
Alves lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alves working the ground and pound.
Alves in side control lands a decent elbow.

Alves tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Duke is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Alves asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Duke takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Alves in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Alves lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Alves tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Alves has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Alves tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Alves is putting a hurting on Duke here, landing some big shots from side control.

Alves thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Alves lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Duke regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fernando Alves dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Alves slips a jab and a cross from Duke.

Duke clinches with his opponent.

Duke manages to break the clinch.
Duke tries to clinch but Alves moves away
and Alves counters with a stiff right hand.
Alves tries for a takedown but Duke sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Luke Duke is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Duke misses with the combination.
Duke swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Duke throws a left and a right that both miss
and Alves counters with a nice uppercut.
Duke gets caught by a brutal right hook which buckles his knees! Duke tries to backpedal with his spaghettilegs but Alves is headhunting and goes for the kill. A jab and a right hook connect and Duke buckles badly as his eyes roll back. The referee steps in and saves Duke!! Duke is complaining but he was clearly out on his feet. Alves throws his mouthpiece into the crowd. Mmmm spit-tastic.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fernando Alves!
