PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between George Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, George Coleman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick James!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coleman misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Coleman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has James pinned against the cage. James gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Coleman is defended easily by James.
James fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Coleman is looking to clinch.
Coleman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Coleman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for George Coleman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Coleman is breathing heavily.
James throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Coleman counters with a series of strikes. James will be more careful next time no doubt.

Coleman throws a sloppy head kick and James moves out of range easily.

James shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than James was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

James takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

James throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Coleman because James loaded up on that one.
Coleman is squirming around, avoiding James's attempts to control the action.

James breaks from Coleman's wrist control and lands an elbow.


Coleman is rocked!
James lands a big elbow.
Oh Coleman is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

James lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coleman is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Nick James dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


James tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Coleman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Coleman seems to have got his legs back now.
James throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up but Coleman swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Coleman shoots for a takedown but James saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Coleman is looking to land body kicks.

James closes the distance and clinches.
James misses with an elbow over the top.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Coleman prevents the takedown attempt.

Coleman ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Coleman no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Coleman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
James wants to control from the top but Coleman keeps moving.
James has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
James might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Coleman kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Coleman has an active guard here but James has managed to pass into half guard.

James thows a huge punch but Coleman dodges it nicely.
James thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Coleman's head.

James is pressing down on Coleman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Coleman is holding on for now.

James is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Coleman has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. James is working away from the top position though.

Nick James has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
James feints a jab promting Coleman to slip. James then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Coleman slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
James wants to clinch up but Coleman keeps it at a distance.
James throws a one two combo.
Coleman throws a head kick but James moves out of range.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
James is looking to clinch but Coleman is avoiding it.
Sloppy strikes from James. Those never looked like landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nick James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Coleman takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
James will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
George Coleman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Coleman looks to land a combination but James avoids it well.

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
James wants to control from the top but Coleman keeps moving.

James throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

No joy there for James, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Coleman drives through with a takedown into James's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Nick James hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
James throws a punch but it's blocked by Coleman.
Coleman prevents a body shot from James.
Coleman's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!
Coleman keeps control of James as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

James is defending well against a takedown attempt.
James makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
With the fighters up against the cage, James throws an elbow but misses.

James pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
James misses with a jab, cross combination.
Coleman fails in his attempt to clinch.

Nick James is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
No luck for James with that takedown attempt.
George Coleman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick James.

Nick James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well James has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
