PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Sass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Woods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey Sass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Woods!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Chad Campbell and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Woods looks to land a left hand but Sass moved out of range nicely.
Woods lands a really nice looking cross but Sass seems unphased.
Sass takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Woods lands a leg kick that knocks Sass off balance momentarily.
Sass tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Woods throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Sass stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Sass ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Woods moves away.
Some wild striking there from Sass.
Woods thows a left - swing and a miss!
Sass throws out a loose jab but Woods uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sass throws a right and a left that both miss.
Woods bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Sass's head backwards.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Woods scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sass doesn't seem bothered though.
Woods throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sass misses with a series of wild punches.
Woods scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Joey Sass has been cut.
Sass tries to bum rush Woods with a series of wild strikes but Woods uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sass swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Woods counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sass moves forwards but Woods connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Woods connects with a single shot there.
Sass throws a leg kick that is checked
and Woods counters with a stiff right hand.
Woods connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Sass momentarily.
Woods connects with a body shot that sends Sass's belly button to the back.
Woods feints and then cracks Sass's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sass down.
That kick from Woods tenderised Sass's leg. Sass is trying to keep his angry face on.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Woods.
Sass is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Woods uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sass has time to react.
Sass has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Sass there as he acknowledges the shot.
Woods scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Woods slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Some wild striking there from Woods.
Sass's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Woods connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Sass scrambles back to his feet.
Sass throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Woods.
Woods lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Woods.


Joey Sass's cut is getting worse.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Woods connects with a solid leg kick.
Sass misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Woods lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Woods moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Sass walks into a jab.
Woods dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Sass. That did some damage!
Woods thuds a left hand into Sass's body.
Woods throws a good cross that connects.


Joey Sass's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Woods punishes Sass's body with a nice straight punch.
Woods throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Sass throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Woods counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Sass misses with a series of wild punches.
A nice leg kick lands there from Woods.
Woods scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Sass misses with a body punch
and Woods counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Woods comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Sass is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Woods keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Woods lands with a cross.
Woods displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
No joy there for Sass, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Woods lands a two punch combo.


Sass is rocked!


Jeez, Joey Sass's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.
Woods is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Sass had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A jab lands there for Woods.
Oh Sass is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A jab from Woods finds it's way through Sass's defenses.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Joey Sass's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). James Woods!
James Woods seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
