Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, James Lewis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Georges StPierre! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Emerson Jorge and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Lewis or perhaps it was just good defense by StPierre which made him look bad. StPierre looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Lewis fails with the takedown and StPierre counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Lewis avoids the head kick by StPierre.
Lewis has his takedown stuffed and StPierre counters with a leg kick. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Lewis. That's going to take a lot out of him. StPierre gets caught napping as Lewis dives in and scores a takedown. StPierre manages to retain guard. Lewis slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. StPierre not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lewis tries to free his leg and advance position but StPierre is retaining full guard. Lewis sitting in guard here, content to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up. James Lewis wasn't doing enough on the ground. Lewis scores a takedown into full mount! Lewis tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. StPierre stops Lewis from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Lewis is working hard here to advance position. Lewis stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Lewis scores a takedown into full mount!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lewis is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. StPierre can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Lewis fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
StPierre is trying to escape the mount but Lewis keeps good control and instead manages to take StPierre's back.
This has been an exciting period of action! Lewis controls the position. StPierre preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Lewis. StPierre holding both Lewis 's hands and preventing any damage.

Lewis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for StPierre on the ground. Lewis is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. StPierre is defending well though. Lewis let's go of the attempt for now. StPierre wants to escape the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lewis not allowing StPierre to control his hands. StPierre tries to escape but Lewis has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Lewis throwing sloppy strikes. StPierre tries to escape the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Lewis is persistently looking for the submission but StPierre is defending it well.
StPierre is trying to get back to his feet but Lewis has full control of the position and if anything, StPierre has just worked his way into a worse spot. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lewis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Lewis slows the pace down. StPierre is not content to let Lewis control the position. Lewis lands some shots froms side control. Lewis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but StPierre is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Lewis looking to punish the body of his opponent here but StPierre is avoiding damage well.
StPierre is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. A lull in the action here as Lewis stalls from top position. Lewis prevents StPierre from escaping the position. Lewis slows the pace down. StPierre wants to control but Lewis postures up. Lewis controls the position. Lewis working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Lewis thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lewis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but StPierre is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Lewis tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. James Lewis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. StPierre is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Lewis off and has taken his back! StPierre trying to control momentarily.
StPierre is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Lewis defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined. StPierre thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. StPierre not allowing Lewis to control his hands. Lewis breaks StPierre's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Lewis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. StPierre keeping full guard, as Lewis tries to pass. StPierre is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Lewis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
James Lewis dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Lewis lunges at StPierre with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by StPierre's hand. Lewis fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with StPierre, pushing him back against the cage. Lewis manages to pull guard.
Lewis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Lewis looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Lewis is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Lewis has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. StPierre is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Lewis.
That's one minute gone in the round. StPierre passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Lewis! Lewis tries to hold on but StPierre postures up. Lewis reaches up to try and control the position but StPierre seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Lewis rolls and tries to escape and now StPierre has his back!
StPierre throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch. Lewis is really stuck here.

Lewis wants to control his opponent's hands but StPierre gets his hands free. A lull in the action here.
StPierre trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Lewis doesn't escape. StPierre patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
That's three minutes gone in the round. StPierre doesn't have the hooks in and Lewis manages to turn into his guard.
Lewis throws an elbow that misses. StPierre uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lewis's guard. Nice move by StPierre! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lewis keeping moving, preventing StPierre from controlling successfully. Lewis tries to land a sweep but no joy. Lewis has his foot on StPierre's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. StPierre works his way back into a safe position though. StPierre stopping the sweep attempt from Lewis. Lewis trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lewis is looking for a triangle here but StPierre uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
StPierre trying to control the position but Lewis is working away. StPierre might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lewis kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Georges StPierre has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! James Lewis is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. StPierre tries for a kimura but Lewis is defending well.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Georges StPierre. Well Lewis has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
