The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nielsen swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sanchez counters with a two punch combo.
Nielsen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sanchez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Some wild striking there from Sanchez.
Nielsen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Sanchez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Nielsen throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sanchez swats away the attempt to clinch by Nielsen.
Nielsen fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Sanchez.
A punch combination from Sanchez misses.
Nielsen throws a nice outside leg kick.
Nielsen showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Sanchez.
Sanchez is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Nielsen lands with a kick to the ribs.

Nielsen throws a right and a left that both miss.
Sanchez throws a series of punches but Nielsen moves out of range.
Nielsen scores with a leg kick.
Nielsen scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Nielsen misses with a few strikes there.
A combination from Sanchez does no damage.

David Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A slapping leg kick lands for Nielsen.
Sanchez throws a right hand that Nielsen ducks under and follows up with a left that Nielsen also avoids with ease.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.
Nielsen scores with a push kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nielsen lands a really nice looking cross but Sanchez seems unphased.
Sanchez misses with a double jab
and Sanchez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Nielsen fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Sanchez.
Oh Sanchez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Nielsen connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Sanchez's hands.
Nielsen tries for a takedown but Sanchez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Nielsen misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Sanchez takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Nielsen throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Sanchez's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Nielsen dives in looking to finish as Sanchez flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Nielsen's strikes! Nielsen is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Sanchez's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Sanchez was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
