Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rusty James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Wrassle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Rusty James has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rusty James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Joe Wrassle!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wrassle thows a body shot but no joy.
A decent looking cross lands there for James.


It looks like Joe Wrassle has been cut.
James swings for the body but Wrassle moves out of range.
Wrassle takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
James uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
No luck for Wrassle with that takedown attempt.
Wrassle takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A combination from James does no damage.
James ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
James throws a one two combo.
James displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Wrassle throws out the jab.
James throws a push kick but Wrassle slaps the foot to one side.

Wrassle feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
James wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

James is looking for a triangle but Wrassle pushes his legs off easily.
Wrassle really doesn't want to stay on the ground with James. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

James lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Wrassle!
James takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Wrassle is squirming around, avoiding James's attempts to control the action.

Wrassle throws a right and a left that James avoids nicely.

Wrassle has a takedown stuffed.
James cracks Wrassle with an open hand slap.
An inside leg kick lands from James.
James lands with a thumping leg kick.
James leaves Wrassle with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Rusty James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Wrassle.

and James counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

James throws a series of punches but Wrassle avoids them all with ease.
James connects with a leg kick. Wrassle looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Rusty James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Wrassle swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Nice body punch from James.

Wrassle drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
James manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
James is trying to control. Wrassle wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
James is pressing down on Wrassle's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wrassle is holding on for now.
Wrassle is refusing to be controlled, as James sits in half guard.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


James fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wrassle looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
James lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Wrassle takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Wrassle walks into a straight right hand from James.
James scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Wrassle closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. James did well to prevent Wrassle getting side control.
Wrassle wants to pass to mount but James is defending the position.
Wrassle scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
James is pressing down on Wrassle's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Wrassle must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Wrassle loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

James pushes Wrassle off and gets back to his feet.
Wrassle misses the shot to the body.
Wrassle shoots for a double leg takedown but James sprawls well. He's pushed Wrassle's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
No joy there for Wrassle, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Wrassle throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. James was covering up waiting for the punch and Wrassle finishes the takedown easily into guard.
James controls Wrassle momentarily but Wrassle frees himself.

Wrassle stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.
James lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Wrassle!

That was a close second round but I would say that Rusty James will probably get the nod.

James lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
James's jab looks to have found its range, popping Wrassle under the eye.

A nice inside leg kick there by James. That's going to slow Wrassle down.
Wrassle fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Wrassle takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
James throws a nice looking combination but Wrassle bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
James misses with a hook. Wrassle ducked under it nicely.
James clobbers Wrassle with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

James throws a looping overhand right but Wrassle ducks down to avoid it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wrassle sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Wrassle shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Wrassle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
James cracks a nice hook into Wrassle's ribs.
James lands with an uppercut that bounces Wrassle off the cage and back into range.
Wrassle has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Wrassle there as he acknowledges the shot.
James looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
James slaps away a takedown attempt from Wrassle, before circling back to the center of the mat.
James scores with a jab. Wrassle acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

James wants to sweep but no luck.

Well James has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
