PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Osulf Durin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nobunaga Oda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Osulf Durin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nobunaga Oda!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Durin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Oda fails with the takedown.
Oda shoots in and drives through. Durin sprawls well.
Durin with a nice cross.
Oda takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Durin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Oda shoots for a double leg takedown but Durin sprawls well. He's pushed Oda's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Osulf Durin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nobunaga Oda.

Oda bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Check out the look on Oda's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Oda tries to score with some ground and pound. Durin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Oda wants to take a breather but Durin manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Oda.
Oda seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Oda postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Oda works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Oda is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Durin is refusing to be controlled, as Oda sits in half guard.

Oda is keen to just control but Durin is a slippery customer.

Oda lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Oda is looking to stall here but Durin recovers full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Oda makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Oda is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Durin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Oda throws an elbow that misses. Durin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Oda's guard. Nice move by Durin!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Oda controls Durin momentarily but Durin frees himself.

Oda had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Durin defends it easily.
Oda has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Oda is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Durin defends well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Durin tries to free his leg and advance position but Oda is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nobunaga Oda dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Durin tries to bum rush Oda with a series of wild strikes but Oda uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Durin leaves Oda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Durin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Oda.

Durin misses with a head kick.
Durin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Durin throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Oda has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Oda there as he acknowledges the shot.
Oda has a takedown stuffed.
Durin lands a jab-cross combination.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Oda tries to score a power double leg takedown but Durin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Oda somewhat.
A left and a right from Durin both land. Nice combination.

and Durin counters with a series of strikes. Oda will be more careful next time no doubt.
Oda is breathing heavily.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Durin.
Osulf Durin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Durin goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Oda.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Oda has hold of Durin's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Durin tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Oda cranks the arm and Durin screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Durin, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Nobunaga Oda!
