Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jiu Jitsu! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Omar Mendes! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jitsu shoots and misses and Mendes counters with a straight right hand. Mendes connects with a leg kick. Jitsu looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Omar Mendes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mendes misses with the combination.
Mendes moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Mendes explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Mendes connects with a high kick. Jitsu shoots and misses letting Mendes counter with a right hand. Mendes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Jitsu has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jitsu with a lazy takedown attempt and Jitsu takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jiu Jitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mendes thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Jitsu if he has to take too many more of those.
Mendes slaps away a takedown attempt from Jitsu, before circling back to the center of the mat. Jitsu takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Omar Mendes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mendes thuds a left hand into Jitsu's body. Mendes stalks Jitsu and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jitsu's face. Jitsu staggers backwards, shaken. Mendes misses with the combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Jitsu takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mendes closes the distance and lands a one-two. Horrible takedown by Jitsu or perhaps it was just good defense by Mendes which made him look bad. A combination from Mendes does no damage. Mendes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jitsu moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Mendes throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Jitsu tries for a takedown but Mendes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Jitsu has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Jitsu there as he acknowledges the shot.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Jitsu has his takedown stuffed and Mendes cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Danga de danga de dang - Mendes scores with a four punch combination! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Jitsu with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Mendes to score with a decent uppercut. Mendes tries to bum rush Jitsu with a series of wild strikes but Jitsu uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Mendes gets caught flat footed, as Jitsu shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Mendes can't keep his opponent in guard - Jitsu advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Jitsu seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mendes does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Omar Mendes dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Mendes with a body punch. A glancing blow. Mendes throws a right and a left that both miss. Mendes misses with a two punch combination.
Jitsu misses with a takedown and Mendes counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Jitsu has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Jitsu dodges the punch combination from Mendes.
Mendes lands a head kick. Jitsu smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

Mendes misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Jitsu doesn't succeed with the takedown and Mendes counters with a solid body kick. Mendes misses with a series of wild punches.
Mendes throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Jitsu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mendes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jitsu somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jiu Jitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him. Mendes misses with the combination.
Jitsu shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Mendes counters with a stiff right hand. A punch combination from Mendes misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mendes with a hook. Mendes tries to bum rush Jitsu with a series of wild strikes but Jitsu uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Mendes lands a jab-cross combination. Mendes looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Nice cross by Mendes. A head kick misses from Mendes. Jitsu shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mendes sprawls well. Mendes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jitsu gets slowly back to his feet. Mendes scores with a kick to the midsection.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mendes lands a nice hook to Jitsu's body. Jitsu takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Nice sprawl there from Mendes as Jitsu shoots in. Jitsu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mendes sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jitsu somewhat. Mendes scores with a punch to the head. Jitsu looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. A right-left combo lands from Mendes. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Omar Mendes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Mendes has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Jitsu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mendes is fending him off so far but Jitsu persists. Nope, Mendes circles away and we're back to standing. Jitsu scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mendes seems a little lost for a moment, as Jitsu dominates the positioning. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mendes is looking for a sweep. Jitsu tries to advance to mount but can't. Mendes is looking for a sweep. Jitsu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mendes, who protects the arm well. Jitsu tries for a kimura but Mendes is defending well. Jitsu wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mendes keeps working.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jitsu is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mendes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Jitsu is looking to take a break and control but Mendes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Jitsu tries to move to full mount but Mendes actually manages to regain half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jitsu uses his free foot to push down on Mendes's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Mendes. Mendes tries to hold on but Jitsu pushes him away. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jitsu is working for a guillotine from mount but Mendes frees his head quite easily.
Jitsu working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Mendes turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Jitsu off and cradles Mendes's limp body as Jitsu celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Jiu Jitsu!
