Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Gurgel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reis Monson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jorge Gurgel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Reis Monson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Gurgel with a body punch. A glancing blow.
A left and a right from Gurgel both land. Nice combination.
Monson tries to bum rush Gurgel with a series of wild strikes but Gurgel uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Monson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gurgel paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Monson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gurgel finds it's way round the side to connect with Monson's head.
Monson throws a series of punches but Gurgel moves out of range.

Monson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Monson drops back looking for a leg! Gurgel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gurgel manages to kick Monson off! Monson jumps back into Gurgel's guard.

Gurgel can't keep his opponent in guard - Monson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gurgel trying to hold on to Monson's head to control him but Monson postures up.

Monson is trying to work for a kimura but Gurgel is defending well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Monson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Gurgel.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Monson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Monson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Gurgel, pushing him back against the cage.
Gurgel tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Monson smiles and moves away.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Monson connects with a nice short shot to Gurgel's temple.
Gurgel wants to control but Monson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Monson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gurgel avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Monson.
Monson wants to pass the guard but Gurgel is defending well.
Gurgel is looking to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gurgel throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Monson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Gurgel scores with a hook to the body. Monson takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Gurgel scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Gurgel throws a right hand that Monson ducks under and follows up with a left that Monson also avoids with ease.
Gurgel is breathing heavily.
Gurgel throws a nice looking combination but Monson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Gurgel could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gurgel misses with a jab, cross combination.

Monson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Monson wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Gurgel, who protects the arm well.
Monson has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Gurgel tries to hold on but Monson postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Monson is working for a guillotine from mount but Gurgel frees his head quite easily.
Monson wants to take Gurgel's back here but Gurgel is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Reis Monson will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Monson closes the distance and clinches up with Gurgel, looking for a takedown. Monson pushes Gurgel against the cage but Gurgel circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Monson is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Gurgel.
A combination from Gurgel does no damage.
Gurgel will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gurgel works over Monson's head and body with a nice combination.
Gurgel lands with a nice combination. Monson backs away looking to recover.

Monson clinches with his opponent.
Monson struggles to land a body shot inside as Gurgel controls his hands.
Come on Monson - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Monson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gurgel lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Monson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Monson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gurgel lands with an uppercut that bounces Monson off the cage and back into rage.
Monson tries to bum rush Gurgel with a series of wild strikes but Gurgel uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

and Gurgel counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Monson is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Gurgel has managed to free his arm - good work.
Gurgel makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gurgel.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gurgel throws a right hand that Monson ducks under and follows up with a left that Monson also avoids with ease.

and Gurgel counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Gurgel moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Gurgel scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Monson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Monson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Monson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Gurgel should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Monson has tightened it up now! Gurgel should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
