The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson slips under a jab.
Virtanen thows a left - swing and a miss!
Virtanen takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Virtanen walks into a straight right hand from Thompson.

It looks like Artturi Virtanen has been cut.
Thompson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Virtanen was well out of range. Poor timing from Thompson.
Virtanen swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Thompson makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Virtanen moves out of range as Thompson strikes.
Thompson throws a hook but Virtanen blocks it.
Thompson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Thompson throws a body punch but Virtanen moves out of range.
Virtanen ducks under a wild hook from Thompson.

Thompson feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Virtanen sprawling to the canvas! Virtanen rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Thompson finish him?!

Virtanen is rocked!
Thompson throws an uppercut from hell that sends Virtanen clean off his feet! He's out cold! Thompson stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Rick Thompson opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
