Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dave Bower (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Leighty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Bower might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to When I'm With You. Leighty has chosen Cowboy Dan as his entrance music. Dan Leighty told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Bower! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dan Leighty! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A looping hook to the body misses from Leighty. Bower does a little dance to reset his feet. Leighty connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Bower throws a series of punches but Leighty avoids them all with ease. Leighty takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Bower throws a lazy right hand but Leighty sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. A telegraphed right hand from Bower misses the target. Bower looks to score with a jab to the body but Leighty is just out of range. Bower ducks under a wild hook from Leighty. A kick lands to the mid section there for Leighty. Dan Leighty seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bower feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Bower stops Leighty from standing up. Bower is working Leighty over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Bower controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Bower looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bower throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Leighty works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Leighty is controlling Bower's posture. Leighty is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Bower trying to control the position from guard on top but Leighty is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Bower has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Bower postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Leighty wants to stand up but Bower is controlling him. Bower is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bower throws a big right hand that misses. Bower throws a big right hand that misses. Leighty trying to keep a closed guard but Bower is proving a slippery customer.

Bower throws a big elbow that misses. Leighty looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. Leighty is trying to control the position but Bower postures up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dan Leighty hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. A big left from Bower misses. Leighty defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bower. Bower ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Leighty moves away. Bower shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Bower was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Leighty wants to hold on but Bower pushes him away. Bower prevents Leighty from getting the reversal. Leighty is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Bower trying to control but Leighty is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Leighty wants to hold on but Bower pushes him away. Leighty sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Leighty is positioning himself well to prevent Bower advancing to mount. Leighty keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Bower is thwarting Leighty's attempts to control the position. Bower seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Leighty does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dave Bower dominated that round. That's time! Bower's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Bower is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Leighty looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Crunch! Leighty slams his shin into Bower's torso. Bower throws a hook to the side of Leighty's head but Leighty sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. The fighters circling - Leighty throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Bower slips a straight right by Leighty. Bower gets the takedown into side control. Bower scoring with punches from side control. Bower looks up at the clock and then as Leighty takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Bower smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Bower wants to control but Leighty is keeping him busy. Bower fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bower working away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bower is looking to take a break and control but Leighty is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Bower content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. You can see the frustration on Leighty's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Leighty is looking for a sweep. Leighty struggling a bit here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Leighty is not content to let Bower control the position.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Leighty throws a push kick but Bower slaps the foot to one side. Bower lands a nice hook to Leighty's body. Leighty takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Leighty throws a leg kick which misses Bower's front leg but catches the back leg as Bower tries to avoid it. Leighty uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Bower. Leighty throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. A cross from Leighty lands. Leighty misses the jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bower looks to land a left hand but Leighty moved out of range nicely. Leighty throws a leg kick that is checked and Bower counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Leighty! Bower tries to control but Leighty wriggling away. Bower prevents Leighty from getting the reversal. Bower throwing strikes here but Leighty is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Bower scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Leighty?

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bower putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Bower working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Leighty looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Bower! Submission of the night perhaps?
