Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rob Coogan! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Jones! The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Viktor Lagutenko and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some wild striking there from Jones.
Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jones cracks Coogan with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Jon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Coogan misses with an uppercut. Jones saw that one coming. Coogan checks the leg kick. Coogan throws a shot from downtown. Jones moves away and avoids it. Jones scores with a decent looking hook.
It looks like Rob Coogan has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Jones connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Jones throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Jones misses with a looping right. Coogan looks to throw the jab but Jones is out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Coogan scores with a crisp jab that stopped Jones in his tracks. Coogan slips under a jab from Jones. Jones sizes up Coogan with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Jones misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Jones will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Coogan connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jones's hands. Jones with a hook.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Jones looks to land a combination but Coogan avoids it well. Coogan takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Jones listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Coogan checks a leg kick. Coogan ducks under a wild hook from Jones. Coogan staying out of range there. Jones scores with a jab to the body. Coogan thows a left - swing and a miss! Sloppy strikes from Jones. Those never looked like landing. Jones swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Jones has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Coogan blocks a low kick nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fight stays on the outside here - Coogan looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Coogan keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Coogan fails to land the takedown. Coogan throws out a loose jab but Jones uses good head movement to avoid it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jon Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Jones tries to bum rush Coogan with a series of wild strikes but Coogan uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Jones looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Coogan tries to clinch up. Coogan fails with an attempt to clinch.
Coogan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center. Jones throws a right and a left that Coogan avoids nicely. Jones throws a right and a left that Coogan avoids nicely. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Jones lands a head shot.
Rob Coogan's cut is getting worse. Coogan tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.

Jones throws the left hand but Coogan avoids the punch easily. Coogan swinging wildly here.
Jones cracks Coogan with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Coogan circles away quickly and effectively. Jones scores with a sloppy right hand. Coogan should have avoided that one. Jones lands a slapping body shot.
Coogan will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Jones tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Coogan was well out of range. Poor timing from Jones. Jones throws a series of punches but Coogan moves out of range.

Jones keeps the fight on the outside. Jones throws a push kick but Coogan slaps the foot to one side. Jon Jones seems to be getting the better of the standup. Left hook, right uppercut from Jones. This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Coogan might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far. Coogan throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Jones fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
An inside leg kick from Jones misses. Jones lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Coogan needs to keep his hands up - Jones had a free shot at his head there. Jones bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Coogan tries to clinch and Jones counters with a crisp one two that drops Coogan! Jones thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Coogan to his feet! Coogan is in big trouble!
Coogan is rocked! Coogan moves out of range of the strikes. Oh Coogan is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Jones throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Coogan stumbling backwards into the cage! Coogan bounces back off the cage towards Jones, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Jones lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Jones celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jon Jones! Jon Jones is the new light heavyweight champion!
