Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rikki Way! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Michael Ray! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and James Ackerman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ray decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Way manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Way might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Way is looking for a triangle but Ray pushes his legs off easily.
Way wants to sweep here but Ray controlling him for the moment. Ray stands up over Way, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Ray scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Way keeping full guard, as Ray tries to pass. Ray stopping the sweep attempt from Way. Way throws his legs up looking for a submission but Ray uses it to pass to side control.
Way gets back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Way gets back to full guard.
Ray tries to free his leg and advance position but Way is retaining full guard. Way looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Ray wanted to stand there but Way had control of the position. Way manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ray manages to get himself to full guard.
Way stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ray swivels though and keeps the full guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Ray wants to stand up but Way is controlling him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Way stopping the sweep attempt from Ray. Ray will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Ray wants to sweep but no luck. Ray keeping full guard, as Way tries to pass. Way is working hard here to advance position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Ray fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Way misses with a takedown attempt and Ray counters with a takedown into side control. Way is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Ray off and has taken his back! Way is breathing heavily. Ray holding both Way 's hands and preventing any damage. Ray turns into Way and is now in his guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ray trying to control the position from guard on top but Way is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Ray stands up over Way, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Ray avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ray throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Ray postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Way is looking for a triangle but Ray pushes his legs off easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Way looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ray gets to his feet - Way follows without any prompting. Ray with a poor takedown and Way counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Way. Ray wants to sweep but no luck. Ray keeping full guard, as Way tries to pass. Ray looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Way stops Ray from standing up. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ray looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Ray lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Way! Ray has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Way's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Michael Ray will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Ray closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Way tries to roll over but Ray keeps him under control. The fighters are battling for position here. Way manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Ray pushing down on Way's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Way moves into full guard.
Ray lands a couple of elbows. Way looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Ray is in close to Way's body, working some short punches and elbows. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ray lands a couple of decent looking shots. Ray with a nice head shot there. Ray forces his way into half guard. Ray wants to lay and pray for a moment but Way keeps working.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice strikes from Ray there. Way is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ray scores with a couple of nice shots. Ray looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Way with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Ray drops an elbow to the side of Way's head. Ray lands with a punch from half guard. Way tries to roll over but Ray keeps him under control. Way regains full guard. Nicely done. Ray lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Ray keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Way's head. Ray cracks Way with a solid left hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ray stands and throws Way's legs to the side, diving into side control. Way is trying to get back to half guard. Ray tries for a kimura but Way is defending well. Ray working the ground and pound. Way manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Michael Ray has got the better of the ground game so far. Ray has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Way is working away from the top position though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ray won't allow Way to pass to mount. Ray is defending against the submission attempts here by Way.
Ray kicks off Way and gets to his feet. Ray rushes Way and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Way has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ray regains guard immediately. Way drops back looking for a leg! Ray is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ray manages to kick Way off! Way jumps back into Ray's guard. Ray throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Way drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Way seems to have locked his on tight now - Ray screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Way, as he picks up the win!
