Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 11 - 0, fighting out of London, Paquito Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, Sean Corvia! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Corvia uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Diaz. A swing and a miss from Diaz. Diaz scores with a crisp jab that stopped Corvia in his tracks. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Diaz, as that shot connected.
Corvia misses with a takedown attempt - Diaz sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Diaz throws a lazy uppercut
and Corvia counters with a big head kick but Diaz shrugs it off. Corvia drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Corvia stands and throws Diaz's legs to the side, diving into side control. Corvia tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Corvia has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Corvia is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Diaz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Diaz is looking to reverse the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Corvia looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Diaz is not content to let Corvia control the position. Corvia is looking for a kimura. Corvia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Corvia wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy. Corvia is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Diaz looks calm but he's in trouble here. Corvia gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Diaz is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Corvia lets go of the hold and Diaz can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Sean Corvia! After winning the bout, Sean Corvia thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
