Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Kovacs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rick Carter! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, John Roberts and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kovacs fails with an attempt to clinch.
Carter throws a nice looking combination but Kovacs bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Kovacs tries to clinch but Carter is having none of it. Michael Kovacs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kovacs throws a sloppy head kick and Carter moves out of range easily. A big head kick from Kovacs and Carter is sent sprawling to the canvas!
Carter is rocked!
It looks like Rick Carter has been cut. Kovacs throwing strikes but missing. Carter is still in real trouble! Can Kovacs finish him? Kovacs trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Kovacs sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Carter's guard. Carter wants to improve his position but Kovacs is controlling well.
Carter seems to have recovered his senses. Kovacs trying to pass the guard but Carter defending well. Carter is trying to stand up here but Kovacs is controlling him well. Kovacs is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Carter defends it well. Carter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Carter trying to hold on to Kovacs's head to control him but Kovacs postures up.
Kovacs looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Kovacs seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Carter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Carter lands a head kick that stumbles Kovacs and the fighters go to the mat.
Kovacs is rocked!
It looks like Michael Kovacs has been cut. Carter controlling from the top position. Oh Kovacs is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Kovacs wants to sweep but no luck. Carter is posturing up here but Kovacs has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Carter tries to roll out but it's too tight and Carter has to tap! Slick submission there by Kovacs!
