PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jerry Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jerry Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Paul Tew and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jones wants it to stay on the feet.
Smith changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Smith manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Smith looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Smith throws a head kick that misses
and Jones counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Smith clinches with his opponent.
Smith takes a knee to the side of the body.
Smith jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jones walks away with a smile on his face. Smith gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Jerry Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Smith.
Nice sprawl there from Jones as Smith shoots in.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Jones drives through and clinches with Smith against the cage.
Smith tries for a takedown. No joy.
Smith on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Jones lands a good knee to the midsection. Smith won't want to take too many of those.
Smith takes a knee right on the jaw!


It looks like John Smith has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith is trying to break the clinch but Jones is controlling him.
Smith can't break the clinch.
A right hook to the body lands for Smith.
Jones throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
Jones is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Smith looks gassed!
Jones scores with a knee to the head.

Smith is fighting off a takedown attempt but Jones is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Smith to the mat. Smith regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jones keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Smith's head.

Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Smith is keeping the position for now.
Smith should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Smith's guard.
Jones is trying to control the action in half guard but Smith is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Smith on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Jones lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Jones looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Jones working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Smith is in trouble now - Jones has advanced to mount!
Jones tries to control but Smith wriggling away.
Smith takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Jones is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Smith to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smith shrugs it off.
Jones lands a big elbow.
A nice elbow there by Jones.

Jones looking to finish Smith with some ground and pound. This is bad for Smith!
Smith is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
BOOM! Jones connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Smith manages to break the clinch.
Jones shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Smith defends it nicely.
Jones pushes Smith away with a front kick.
Smith fails with a takedown attempt.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.
Smith is breathing heavily.

Jones looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Smith!

Smith is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
Jones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Smith can do to turn this around?
Jones lands with some strikes.

Jones swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Smith is now in Jones's guard. A big mistake from Jones there, giving up the dominant position!
Jones lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smith!

Jones wants to finish this one by submission but Smith is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Jones.

Jones is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Smith can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jones is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Smith has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Jones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Smith is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Jones lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Jones lands a big shot there that rocks Smith but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Jones fails to land the takedown.

Smith has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Smith closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Smith is working for takedown but Jones is calmly controlling the position for now.

Smith turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Smith takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jones is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Jones is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Jones lands one or two decent shots to the body here. Although from his own half guard, he's not going to be causing too much damage.
Jones preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Jones moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Jones lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Smith!

Smith is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Smith manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Jerry Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Smith seems to have recovered his senses.
Smith pushes Jones away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jones gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jones tries to move to mount but Smith blocks the move with his legs.
Smith seems a little lost for a moment, as Jones dominates the positioning.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Jones seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Smith for as long as he can get away with.

Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
