Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Liam Machin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 21 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Conway! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Russell Pearce and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Conway tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Machin misses with a body shot.
Machin steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Conway. Conway tries to bum rush Machin with a series of wild strikes but Machin uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Machin scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Jimmy Conway seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Conway misses with a looping left. Machin buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Conway walks into a straight right hand from Machin. Conway throws a right hand that Machin ducks under and follows up with a left that Machin also avoids with ease. Machin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Machin connects with a solid leg kick. Machin leaves Conway with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Conway takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Machin moves into range and clinches up with Conway. Conway wants to take the fight to the mat but Machin manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Machin pulls guard effortlessly. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Machin keeping moving, preventing Conway from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Conway has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Machin is proving hard to escape from. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Conway throws a strike but Machin rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Machin forces his way into half guard. Machin is trying for a kimura here. Conway looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Machin wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Liam Machin!
