Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jamie Hyneman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Billy Sampson! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Jonathan Paton and Anthony Taglia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sampson tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Hyneman was well out of range. Poor timing from Sampson. Hyneman misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hyneman lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sampson backs up against the cage.
It looks like Billy Sampson has been cut. Hyneman looks to land a combination. Sampson sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Sampson waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Hyneman. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sampson missing with a left hand there. Hyneman was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Sampson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hyneman was covering up waiting for the punch and Sampson finishes the takedown easily into guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Sampson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Hyneman working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Sampson. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sampson wants to pass the guard but Hyneman is keeping the position. Hyneman keeping moving, preventing Sampson from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hyneman has momentary wrist control but Sampson slips an elbow through the middle. Sampson tries to free his leg and advance position but Hyneman is retaining full guard. Sampson chips away with some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sampson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Sampson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hyneman's guard. Sampson misses with a head shot. Hyneman uses the momentum to regain guard. Sampson connects with a couple of short punches. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sampson throws an elbow that misses. Hyneman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Sampson's guard. Nice move by Hyneman!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sampson is pulling down on Hyneman's head. It's preventing any offense from Hyneman, at least for the moment. Sampson is trying to keep Hyneman in close.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sampson has control of Hyneman's left arm, preventing Hyneman from doing any damage. Sampson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hyneman manages to get himself to full guard.
Sampsonis looking to pass into half guard but Hyneman pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Hyneman is in guard. Sampson is looking for a triangle here but Hyneman uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sampson can do anything to dispel that myth. Sampson struggling a bit here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sampson regains half guard. Sampson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hyneman is working away from the top position though. Sampson is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hyneman's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hyneman's back! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sampson missing with strikes from the back. Sampson misses with an elbow to the head. Sampson thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Sampson counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Hyneman trying to control the position.
Sampson stops Hyneman from standing up. Sampson postures up and lands a big shot to Hyneman's brow. Sampson throws a big right hand that misses. Sampson throws a strike but Hyneman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hyneman won't allow Sampson to sweep him here.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Billy Sampson was stalling too much, according to the referee. Sampson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hyneman.

Hyneman shoots in looking for a takedown. Sampson tries to sprawl out of it but Hyneman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sampson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Sampson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Sampson thows a body shot but no joy. Jamie Hyneman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Sampson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sampson wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. This has been an exciting period of action! Sampson throws a shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Sampson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hyneman moves away. Sampson punishes Hyneman's body with a nice straight punch. Sampson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Hyneman on his heels. He'll look to pass Hyneman's guard now, I'm sure.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sampson throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Hyneman works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Sampson cracks Hyneman with an elbow. That is naaassty. Billy Sampson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Sampson happy to just control the position for now.

Not really close to a finish though. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. You can see the frustration on Hyneman's face as Sampson controls the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Billy Sampson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Sampson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
