PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Barzini (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gus Corleone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barzini comes to the cage accompanied by Flaw - Get up again. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Bruno Barzini!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Gus Corleone!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, William Gold and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Corleone finds it's target.


It looks like Bruno Barzini has been cut.
Corleone misses with a shot to the body

and Barzini counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Corleone is trying to control but can't.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Barzini throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Barzini has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Corleone trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Corleone tries to lock up and control but Barzini gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Barzini seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Corleone for as long as he can get away with.
Barzini misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Barzini has hold of Corleone's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Corleone manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Barzini has control of Corleone's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Corleone regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barzini has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Corleone sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Bruno Barzini just wasn't active enough.
Nice takedown defense from Corleone. No joy for Barzini on that attempt.

and Barzini counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Corleone has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barzini can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Corleone is striking from the bottom but Barzini uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

Barzini stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Corleone to get to his feet.

so Barzini counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Corleone wants to stand back up but Barzini manages to pass into side control.
Barzini creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Corleone sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
You can see the frustration on Corleone's face as Barzini controls the position.

Barzini throws an elbow but Corleone slips to the side and avoids it well.
Corleone is trying to get back to half guard.
Corleone really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Barzini. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Barzini decides to stand back up. Barzini steps back and let's Corleone get back to his feet.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Barzini.
Corleone stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

and Barzini counters with a shoot takedown. Corleone fights it but they end up in guard.
Barzini pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Corleone is keeping the position for now.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Corleone can do anything to dispel that myth.
Barzini slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Corleone is working to avoid the ground and pound but Barzini connects with a decent elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Barzini tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Barzini has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Barzini stands up.

Barzini blocks a head kick by Corleone.
Corleone swings for the body but Barzini moves out of range.
Barzini will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Corleone lands a left and a right that send Barzini crashing to the mat, dazed. Corleone thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Corleone is desperately trying to improve his position but Barzini has a good base and remains in mount.

Barzini cracks Corleone with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Corleone wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Barzini.
Barzini takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Barzini has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Corleone's face.

Barzini is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Corleone throws a front kick aimed at Barzini's knee but Barzini avoids it well.

Barzini fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Corleone wants to control but Barzini is having none of it.
You get the feeling that Corleone really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Barzini's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Corleone throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Barzini sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Corleone is looking to land body kicks.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bruno Barzini showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Barzini, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Bruno Barzini tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
