PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pile Driver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Plo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Driver comes to the cage accompanied by my way. Plo has chosen ISIS - Grinning Mouths as his entrance music. Patrick Plo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Pile Driver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
22 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Patrick Plo!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Plo takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Driver misses with a jab, cross combination.
Driver fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
A big right from Plo misses.
Plo keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Driver.
Driver misses with a double jab.
Plo takes one to the side of the head.
Nice jab there from Plo.
Driver shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Plo napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Plo manages to get back to half guard.
Driver throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Driver looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Plo with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Driver throws an elbow that misses. Plo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Driver's guard. Nice move by Plo!
Driver is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Driver bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Plo's guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Plo is on top in guard.

Plo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Plo thuds his right hand into Driver's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Driver throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Plo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Driver was well out of range. Poor timing from Plo.
Plo closes the distance and clinches up with Driver, looking for a takedown. Plo pushes Driver against the cage but Driver circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Driver lunges at Plo with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Plo's hand.
Driver throws a hook to the side of Plo's head but Plo sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Plo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Driver.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Driver changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Plo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Driver thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Driver creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Plo sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Pile Driver overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Driver goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Plo rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Driver's guard! Nice work there by Plo!
