Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Igor Gato!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gato closes the distance and clinches up with Hietala, looking for a takedown. Gato pushes Hietala against the cage but Hietala circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gato takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Gato throws a hook to the side of Hietala's head but Hietala sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gato could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gato throws a shot from downtown. Hietala moves away and avoids it.
Gato tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hietala swivels and escapes.
Gato on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Hietala throws a low kick but Gato moves out of range easily.
Hietala connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Gato momentarily.
Hietala looks to throw the jab but Gato is out of range.

Hietala tries to circle away but Gato has him pinned against the cage.

Gato rushes Hietala and presses him up against the cage.
Gato has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Hietala uses from the top position.
Hietala wants to get up but he can't break Gato's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Gato pulls Hietala in close to his closed guard and prevents Hietala from doing any damage or advancing position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hietala throws a low kick but it's checked well by Gato.
Sander Hietala is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Gato moves into range and clinches up with Hietala.

Gato breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Gato closes this distance looking for a takedown but Hietala circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Igor Gato. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gato shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Gato throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hietala's waist but Hietala gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gato off to one side.
Hietala works over Gato's head and body with a nice combination.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hietala has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Gato shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hietala pinned against the cage. Hietala gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Gato is breathing heavily.
Good leg kick by Hietala there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Gato misses with a takedown attempt - Hietala sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hietala scores with a nice body kick.
A bone on bone clash there as Gato blocks the leg kick.
Gato on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

and Hietala counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Gato thinking.

Hietala fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gato.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gato shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hietala but Hietala pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hietala feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gatos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sander Hietala dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Good standup being displayed there by Hietala as he connects with a hook.
Hietala cracks Gato with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Gato fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gato avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gato pulls guard successfully.

Gato seems keen to control Hietala's posture.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Sander Hietala wasn't active enough on the ground.
Gato moves out of range of the leg kick from Hietala.
Hietala works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Hietala throws a shot to the body.
Hietala throws a low kick but it's checked well by Gato.
Hietala's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Hietala duly obliges.
Hietala connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Gato momentarily.
Some bone on bone action there as Gato checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Igor Gato is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Gato.
Gato moves into the clinch successfully.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gato takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Gato has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Hietala should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Gato has tightened it up now! Hietala should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
