PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mirko Mirinda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Donkey Kong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mirko Mirinda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Donkey Kong!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Kong with that takedown attempt.
Mirinda stuffs the takedown attempt from Kong. Kong gets slowly back to his feet.
Kong tries to clinch but Mirinda moves away

and Mirinda counters with a shoot takedown. Kong fights it but they end up in guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mirinda controls from within his opponent's guard.
Kong wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Mirinda is now in half guard.
Mirinda could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Mirinda is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Kong is trying to maintain the position but Mirinda is very close to passing his half guard.
Kong is looking for a sweep. Mirinda is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mirinda perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Kong is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Mirinda stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kong to get to his feet.
Kong darts in trying to clinch

and Mirinda counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Mirinda slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Mirinda seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kong for as long as he can get away with.

We're going to have a standup here because Mirko Mirinda wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Mirinda shoots in and gets a takedown into Kong's guard.

Mirinda gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Kong looks gassed!

Mirinda looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Kong!
Kong tries to improve his position but instead Mirinda has taken his back!
Mirinda is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Mirinda gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Mirinda gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Mirinda apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Kong tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Mirinda manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kong shoots for a double leg takedown but Mirinda sprawls well. He's pushed Kong's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Mirko Mirinda has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Donkey Kong.
Kong closes the distance and clinches up with Mirinda, looking for a takedown. Kong pushes Mirinda against the cage but Mirinda circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mirinda looks for a takedown but Kong sprawls well.

Mirinda shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kong is trying to defend but Mirinda finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Mirinda is trying to work for a kimura but Kong is defending well.
Mirinda content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mirinda decides to stand and escape the position.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Kong enables Mirinda to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Kong manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mirinda slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mirinda works a leg free and moves into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mirko Mirinda dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



Mirinda manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kong on his heels. He'll look to pass Kong's guard now, I'm sure.
Mirinda passes Kong's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Mirinda is looking for a kimura here.
Mirinda keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Kong wants to control but Mirinda is keeping busy.
Kong is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kong throws a strike from the bottom but Mirinda passes into side control!
Kong is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Kong's face as Mirinda controls the position.
Mirinda's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Kong tries to escape but Mirinda is in control.

Mirinda is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Kong is trying to escape and Mirinda transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Kong is forced to tap! Nice work there by Mirinda! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mirko Mirinda!
