PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Furijima Donatello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ales Zhandunka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Donatello comes to the cage accompanied by Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Furijima Donatello!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ales Zhandunka!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donatello is trying hard to land a takedown here. Zhandunka sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Zhandunka keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Furijima Donatello. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Donatello is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Zhandunka is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Zhandunka avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Donatello.
Zhandunka really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Donatello. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Donatello fails to land a wild elbow strike.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zhandunka can do anything to dispel that myth.

Donatello is looking to take a break and control but Zhandunka is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Donatello is trying to get an arm triangle but Zhandunka is defending well.
Donatello misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Donatello content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
You can see the frustration on Zhandunka's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Donatello has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Donatello tries to score with some ground and pound. Zhandunka controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Donatello is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Zhandunka knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Donatello tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Donatello has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Zhandunka regains half guard, as Donatello was trying to land strikes.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Donatello's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Donatello swings for the body but Zhandunka moves out of range.
Zhandunka throws a jab but it's blocked by Donatello.
Zhandunka scores with a punch to the head.
Zhandunka lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.


It looks like Furijima Donatello has been cut.
Donatello throws a poor cross that misses
and Zhandunka makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Zhandunka misses with a series of wild punches.
Donatello takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Sloppy strikes from Zhandunka. Those never looked like landing.
Zhandunka tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Donatello paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Donatello shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Donatello was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Zhandunka wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Donatello.

Zhandunka is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

BOOM! Donatello connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Donatello is pressing down on Zhandunka's thigh, looking to free his foot. Zhandunka is holding on for now.
Donatello perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Donatello lands a nice short elbow.

Zhandunka is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Donatello scores with a couple of nice shots.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Donatello closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Zhandunka's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Donatello accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Donatello stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zhandunka swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Donatello might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Donatello is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Zhandunka defends well.
Furijima Donatello overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Furijima Donatello.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Donatello, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
