PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akisame Koetsuji (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Martinez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Koetsuji kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Monster. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Shigeki Sano and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martinez throws a nice looking combination but Koetsuji bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Koetsuji dives in and scores a takedown into Martinez's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Koetsuji wants to control from the top but Martinez keeps moving.

Koetsuji drops back, looking for a kneebar! Martinez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Martinez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Martinez!
The ground and pound from Martinez seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Koetsuji is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Koetsuji parries the strikes from Martinez easily there. Martinez is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Koetsuji to escape.
Koetsuji holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
The ground and pound from Martinez seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Martinez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Koetsuji tries to bench press Martinez off him but Martinez keeps the position.

A bit of a lull in the action here.

Martinez tries for a kimura but Koetsuji is defending well.
Koetsuji tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Martinez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Martinez wants to control for a moment but Koetsuji uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Koetsuji pulls Martinez in close to prevent any damage.
Koetsuji's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Martinez throws a strike but Koetsuji rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Koetsuji prevents Martinez from getting back to his feet.
Koetsuji pushes down on Martinez's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Koetsuji throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Koetsuji lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Martinez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Koetsuji is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Martinez defends it well.
Koetsuji seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Martinez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Koetsuji is nestled in close to Martinez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Koetsuji tries to pass to full mount but Martinez defends it.
Martinez has hold of Koetsuji's hands but Koetsuji slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Koetsuji shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Martinez is trying to defend but Koetsuji finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Koetsuji is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Koetsuji slips a nice elbow through Martinez's hands, connecting with Martinez's forehead.

Koetsuji has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Martinez is looking to get back to is feet but Koetsuji passes into side control.
