PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Adam Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chad Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez has chosen Finsh em ALL as his entrance music. Chad Mendez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Adam Steel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chad Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Vladimir Khabensky and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez darts in trying to clinch
and Steel counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Mendez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Steel clinches.

Steel tightens his grip and picks Mendez up, before dumping him to the ground. Mendez manages to land in guard.
Steel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mendez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Steel has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Steel throws a strike but Mendez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Steel wants to sweep here but Mendez controlling him for the moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Steel is looking to stand up but Mendez isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Adam Steel wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Steel fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mendez, pushing him back against the cage.

Steel has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Mendez is trying to keep an underhook but Steel manages to get the takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Steel decides to stand and escape the position.

Mendez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Who's going to make the next move?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Adam Steel.
Mendez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Steel manages to avoid it.

Steel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Steel throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Steel throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mendez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Steel drops back looking for a leg! Mendez is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mendez manages to kick Steel off! Steel jumps back into Mendez's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Steel sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Steel trying to control but Mendez is working from the bottom.
Steel scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Mendez has momentary wrist control but Steel slips an elbow through the middle.
Mendez working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Steel.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mendez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Steel throwing strikes but missing.
Steel will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Adam Steel dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Steel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Steel throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Steel throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Mendez because Steel loaded up on that one.
Steel lands a big elbow.

Steel looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Steel can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mendez is looking to escape.

Steel is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Mendez is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Mendez flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Steel anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Mendez and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Steel slips an arm under Mendez chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Steel has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Steel is squeezing on Mendez like an anaconda would it's prey. Mendez fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Adam Steel!
