PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt St Pierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). St Pierre comes to the cage accompanied by Territoire Hostile. Dixon has chosen The Clash - I Fought The Law as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, Matt St Pierre!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, Peter Dixon!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Donald Grub and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixon swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and St Pierre counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dixon's guard now.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dixon is on top in guard.

Dixon got a little sloppy there for a moment and St Pierre has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dixon has managed to get both his arms back between St Pierre's legs - danger averted.

St Pierre looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Dixon passes into half guard.
St Pierre wants to stand back up but Dixon manages to pass into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Dixon wants to control but St Pierre is keeping him busy.
St Pierre tries to improve position but can't.

Dixon decides to take the fight back to the feet.
St Pierre shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Dixon as he jumps to the side.

Dixon darts in and clinches St Pierre up against the cage.

St Pierre escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
St Pierre takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Dixon is looking to clinch.
Dixon throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and St Pierre counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dixon won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dixon can't do much from the bottom here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dixon is looking for a sweep.
St Pierre throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Dixon dodges the ground and pound from St Pierre.
Dixon is not content to let St Pierre control the position.
St Pierre prevents Dixon from escaping the position.
Dixon struggling a bit here.

Dixon sneaks out the side door and pushes St Pierre away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Dixon moves in looking to clinch but St Pierre pushes him off.
Dixon is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dixon lands with an uppercut that bounces St Pierre off the cage and back into range.

Dixon has managed to clinch.

Dixon breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Dixon fails with an attempt to clinch.
Peter Dixon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dixon leaves St Pierre with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Dixon moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Dixon misses with a series of wild punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
St Pierre will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt St Pierre. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dixon finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
St Pierre tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dixon sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten St Pierre somewhat.

St Pierre moves into the clinch.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
St Pierre swings wildly with an uppercut but Dixon uses good head movement to avoid it.
St Pierre lands a right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Peter Dixon will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Dixon fails to land with a series of punches.
St Pierre takes a jab right on the kisser.
St Pierre ducks under a wild hook from Dixon.
St Pierre is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

St Pierre closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dixon is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but St Pierre has just dragged him back down to the mat.
St Pierre throws an elbow but Dixon slips to the side and avoids it well.
Dixon is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Dixon struggling a bit here.

St Pierre postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Dixon is trying to buck St Pierre off.
Dixon takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
St Pierre prevents Dixon from escaping the position.
St Pierre scoring with punches and elbows.

Dixon tries to get back to half guard but can't.
St Pierre taking a break here but Dixon is having none of it and regains half guard.
St Pierre thows a huge punch but Dixon dodges it nicely.

Dixon wants to control but St Pierre is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Dixon wants to get back to his feet.
Dixon trying to control but St Pierre postures up.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. St Pierre connects with a nice short shot to Dixon's temple.
Dixon is staying active underneath St Pierre, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Dixon is trying to stand up here but St Pierre is controlling him well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

St Pierre is pressing down on Dixon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Dixon is holding on for now.

Dixon trying to get back to full guard but St Pierre takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
St Pierre has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
St Pierre scoring with strikes but Dixon is staying in there.

St Pierre is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Dixon is surviving well by controlling St Pierre's body position as best he can.
Dixon's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
St Pierre postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Dixon looks a forlorn figure.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
St Pierre tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
St Pierre looking to finish Dixon with some ground and pound. This is bad for Dixon!


Dixon is rocked!
St Pierre unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Dixon wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! St Pierre celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!
