Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Pinto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oswaldo Barra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Pinto!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Oswaldo Barra!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barra uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pinto.

Barra gets a takedown into half guard.
Barra throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Pinto tries to get to full guard but Barra has control of the leg.
Barra has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Barra trying to control from Pinto's half guard. Pinto has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Barra trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Barra won't allow Pinto to sweep him here.

Barra avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Pinto controls Barra momentarily but Barra frees himself.

Barra looking to sit in guard and control but Pinto gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Pinto decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Barra, up you get!

Barra drops his hands momentarily and Pinto takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Barra rushes Pinto and presses him up against the cage.

Pinto breaks the clinch.

Barra looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Pinto!
Pinto is in all sorts of trouble here.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pinto wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Barra.

Pinto really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Barra throwing strikes here but Pinto is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Barra throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Barra tries to stand up but Pinto had a hold of his arm and he's managed to perform a nice reversal, into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Still in half guard, Pinto seems content to control.
Barra is trying to get back to full guard.

Pinto is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Barra is just riding it out for now. Pinto eventually gives up the hold.

Pinto is pulling down on Barra's head to control his posture.
Pinto wants to get back to his feet but Barra is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jose Pinto.

Pinto lands a slapping body shot.

Barra closes the distance and clinches.

Barra pulls guard effortlessly.
Oswaldo Barra has got the better of the ground game so far.

Pinto gets to his feet - Barra follows without any prompting.
No joy there for Barra, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Pinto throws out a loose jab but Barra uses good head movement to avoid it.
Oswaldo Barra is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Barra has closed the distance and engaged Pinto in a clinch.

Pinto escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Barra rushes Pinto and presses him up against the cage.

Pinto breaks the clinch.

Barra throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pinto was covering up waiting for the punch and Barra finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Barra postures up in Pinto's guard and throws a big left but Pinto blocks it.
Barra tries to free his leg and advance position but Pinto is retaining full guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jose Pinto has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Pinto just misses with a punch to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Oswaldo Barra will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


A looping hook to the body misses from Pinto. Barra does a little dance to reset his feet.

Barra closes the distance and pushes Pinto back into the cage.

Barra gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Pinto is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Barra passes Pinto's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Barra stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pinto swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pinto wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Barra forces his way into half guard.
Barra passes to side control.
Barra throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Pinto works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

Barra is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Barra is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pinto is just riding it out for now. Barra eventually gives up the hold.

Pinto is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Pinto is looking for a triangle but Barra pushes his legs off easily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Oswaldo Barra is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I've got Barra winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Oswaldo Barra is the new lightweight champion!
Oswaldo Barra decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
