Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barry Badridge! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andrew Hughes! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Felipe Paraventi and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughes tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Hughes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Nice uppercut there from Badridge. Hughes looks to clinch and Badridge counters with a nice double leg into half guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Well, if Badridge is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Badridge trying to pass the guard but Hughes defending well. Badridge is looking to take a break and control but Hughes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hughes wants to get back to his feet.
Badridge throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Badridge is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Badridge postures up.
Hughes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Badridge is controlling him. Hughes looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Badridge trying to control the position from guard on top but Hughes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Badridge throws a big right hand that misses. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Hughes wants to sweep here but Badridge controlling him for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Badridge trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Badridge drops back looking for a leg! Hughes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hughes manages to kick Badridge off! Badridge jumps back into Hughes's guard. Hughes keeping full guard, as Badridge tries to pass. Hughes is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Badridge is controlling him. Badridge trying to control but Hughes is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Badridge postures up.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Barry Badridge wasn't doing enough on the ground. Hughes wants to clinch but Badridge slips to the side and Badridge counters with a nice double leg into side control. Hughes won't be happy with that. Badridge tries to advance to mount but can't. Hughes gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hughes is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Badridge throws some wild stikes that Hughes manages to avoid easily.
Badridge scores with a couple of good head shots there.
It looks like Andrew Hughes has been cut. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Badridge is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hughes is surviving well by controlling Badridge's body position as best he can. Hughes wants to hold on but Badridge pushes him away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Badridge can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Hughes is looking to escape. Badridge jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Hughes is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Hughes and Badridge has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Barry Badridge dominated that round. The cut man is working on Andrew Hughes's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Badridge keeps the fight on the outside. The fight stays on the outside here - Hughes looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hughes tries to clinch up. Badridge looks to land a combination but Hughes avoids it well. Hughes tries to clinch but Badridge moves out of range. Hughes tries to clinch up. Badridge moves into range and connects with a jab. Hughes looks for the body kick but Badridge saw that one coming. Badridge lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. A punch combination from Badridge misses. Badridge rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hughes moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Hughes takes one to the side of the head.
That has opened up Andrew Hughes's cut even more. Badridge connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Hughes! He's out on his feet! Badridge rushes in and drops Hughes with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Barry Badridge! Post fight, Barry Badridge stared into the camera and said 'My opponent was pretty one dimentional, altho the thing he does, he does well. But this is not an hugging contest its MMA so he got his ass kicked!'.
