PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Irwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luciano Bivar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Irwin comes to the cage accompanied by AC/DC - T.N.T. Bivar has chosen AC/DC Back In Black as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Paul Irwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Luciano Bivar!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Irwin looks to land a left hand but Bivar moved out of range nicely.

Bivar changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Irwin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Bivar wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Irwin, who protects the arm well.

Bivar goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Irwin rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bivar's guard! Nice work there by Irwin!
Irwin wanted to stand there but Bivar had control of the position.
Bivar is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Irwin is controlling him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bivar wants to sweep here but Irwin controlling him for the moment.

Irwin avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bivar is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Bivar is trying to hold Irwin in close to prevent damage but Irwin has managed to pass into half guard.
Bivar trying to hold on to Irwin's head to control him but Irwin postures up.
Bivar makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bivar.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bivar wants to stand but Irwin is controlling the position.
Bivar is trying to control the position but Irwin postures up.

Bivar is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Irwin defends well.
Bivar manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Irwin manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Bivar trying to control the position from guard on top but Irwin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Irwin tries to escape but Bivar is in control.

Bivar goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Irwin has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Bivar but great work by Irwin.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Luciano Bivar dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Bivar takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Irwin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Bivar throws a head kick but Irwin moves out of range.
Irwin throws a low kick but Bivar avoids it.
Bivar checks a leg kick.
Bivar shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Irwin pinned against the cage. Irwin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Irwin tries a head kick but it misses.
Bivar tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bivar throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Irwin.
Irwin lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Irwin connects with a looping right hand.
Irwin throws a nice looking combination but Bivar bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Irwin moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bivar takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Irwin ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bivar moves away.
Irwin throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

It looks like Luciano Bivar has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Irwin stuffs the takedown.
Bivar swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Bivar walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Irwin scores with a nice right hand.
Irwin lands with a nice body punch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Bivar has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Irwin.
Bivar is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Irwin scores with a nice right hand.
Irwin fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Bivar has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Irwin scores with a shot to the body.
BOOM! Irwin lands a beautiful left hook that drops Bivar. Bivar tries to recover but Irwin is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Bivar lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Irwin!
A relieved looking Paul Irwin thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
