PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Carpenter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erin Brostovski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Erin Brostovski struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 171.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Carpenter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Erin Brostovski!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carpenter fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Brostovski sprawls well initially but Carpenter persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Brostovski looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Carpenter lands with a punch from half guard.
Carpenter is looking to pass Brostovski's guard but actually Brostovski recovers to full guard.
Carpenter thows a big elbow that misses.
Carpenter tries to free his leg and advance position but Brostovski is retaining full guard.
Carpenter is pushing down on Brostovski's leg trying to pass to half guard. Brostovski is fighting to maintain full guard but Carpenter has managed to sneak the leg through.

Carpenter is looking for a kimura but Brostovski is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carpenter to get the leverage.

Carpenter seems to be looking for submissions.
Carpenter thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Brostovski's head.
Carpenter is keen to just control but Brostovski is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carpenter is looking for a kimura but Brostovski is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carpenter to get the leverage.

Carpenter is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Carpenter is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brostovski doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Carpenter.
Brostovski has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carpenter is working away from the top position though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Carpenter wants to work for an arm triangle but Brostovski is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Carpenter seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Brostovski is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Carpenter connects with a nice short shot to Brostovski's temple.
Brostovski is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Carpenter is keen to just control but Brostovski is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Brostovski takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Carpenter's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Carpenter escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brostovski gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Carpenter wants to stand but Brostovski is controlling the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carpenter lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Brostovski!

Carpenter has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Brostovski's face.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carpenter lands a big shot there that rocks Brostovski but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Brostovski takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Carpenter breaks from Brostovski's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Carpenter is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Brostovski can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Brostovski doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Brostovski fails with an attempt to clinch.
Carpenter will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Carpenter rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Brostovski moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Carpenter lands a jab to Brostovski's midsection.
Carpenter takes a swing at Brostovski's ribcage but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carpenter changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Carpenter connects with a good right hand that stumbles Brostovski. Brostovski circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Brostovski tries to clinch but Carpenter moves out of range.

Brostovski is rocked!
BOOM! Carpenter lands a beautiful left hook that drops Brostovski. Brostovski tries to recover but Carpenter is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Brostovski lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:14 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy Carpenter!
